Why has Google censored the Great Barrington Declaration?

This article from Spiked is a bit old, published in October, but I didn't see any news article of Google's censoring of this Declaration here, so thought it would be good to post it. Constructive feedback welcome.

Big Tech now treats any opposition to lockdown as misinformation – even if it’s from eminent scientists.

As much of the world gears up for a second round of lockdowns, and restrictions on everyday life grow ever tighter, a group of infectious-disease epidemiologists and public-health scientists have come together to propose an alternative. The Great Barrington Declaration was spearheaded by Martin Kulldorff from Harvard Medical School, Sunetra Gupta from Oxford University and Jay Bhattacharya from Stanford University Medical School.

The declaration was bound to cause controversy for going against the global political consensus, which holds that lockdowns are key to minimising mortality from Covid-19. Instead, the signatories argue that younger people, who face minimal risk from the virus, should be able to go about their lives unimpeded, while resources are devoted to protecting the most vulnerable. The lockdowns, they argue, have not only caused an intolerable amount of collateral damage, but have also contributed to a higher number of Covid deaths. But for making this argument, the declaration has been censored.

Tech giant Google has decided that the view of these scientists should be covered up. Most users in English-speaking countries, when they google ‘Great Barrington Declaration’, will not be directed to the declaration itself but to articles that are critical of the declaration – and some that amount to little more than smears of the signatories.

Among the top results Google would prefer you to read is a hit-piece from the ever-conspiratorial Byline Times, which insinuates that the scientists have an ulterior, shady motive for challenging lockdown. Google is also happy for you to read about pranksters signing up to the declaration using fake names like ‘Dr Johnny Bananas’, as well as critical commentary from the Guardian and Wired. But it does not want you to read the declaration for yourself and make up your own mind.

Censorship of the declaration has also spread to Reddit. The two most popular subreddits for discussion of the coronavirus – r/COVID-19 and r/coronavirus – have both removed links to the Great Barrington Declaration. The moderators of r/coronavirus, a forum with 2.3million members, have declared it to be ‘spam’.

The censorship of alternative approaches to the coronavirus is shocking – but it is entirely predictable. Ever since Covid-19 arrived, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and governments across the world have been warning about an ‘infodemic’ of Covid misinformation. And the tech giants have been all too willing to play a role in censoring anything that contradicts official advice, guidance and policy. This might make sense in relation to scam artists selling quack Covid cures. But the main casualty of Big Tech’s war on misinformation has been disagreement over how to interpret the Covid data and how governments should respond to the virus.

Censorship is a sign of fear by the censor.

Google and the rest of them fear the truth, and the Great Barrington Declaration is a statement of truth in this time of universal deception.

Therefore, it is a radical act.

Are Americans beginning to awaken? Is the herd beginning to stop the stampede? I hope so.

Fauci & Friends do not want the truth to out.

 

Fauci & Friends are who lead Trump down the path to 400K covid deaths.

 

I am very skeptical of the number you offer. The test is bogus and people have been manipulating the numbers to advance the fear agenda since this all started.

 

I just googled covid deaths and picked one of the numbers. No one can really know the truth.

Google HAS censored the Great Barrington Declaration!

When Google "Great Barrington Declaration", i see only 28,542 direcr results!

There certainly should have been at least 28, 543 results, at least!

Oh, there is no end to Google's perdition!

The 400,000+ COVID deaths are a sham! They all starved and had malnutrition diseases, like eating old Twinkies and out of date donuts!

Its so good that so many of the "Plandemic" COVID and vaccine deniers are filled with ads for vitamins, some are just trying to be helpful!

 

Trump not listening to the science led to 400k+ deaths

Trump never being able to admit he was wrong, was a big part of it, people are gonna get it wrong when it's a new virus, when a mistake is made, accept is and move on, do better.... don't double down on the lies

and never be like Trump and try to claim mission accomplished at the beginning of a virus outbreak, not smart

Trump had his people walking a tight rope between telling the truth and bruising Trump's ego and facing the consequences

 

Personally, I got over a million results just now. The issue isn't the quantity of results, but what is displayed at the top. Based on the article, it seems that at first, the top results were only from sites deriding the health experts who signed it. However, I now see that the first result is from the website that hosts the Great Barrington Declaration. The second site is one criticizing the declaration though, as well as a fair amount of the next top choices.

 

Haha! How long did Fauci go along and get along with the way Trump was handling things? If Fauci knew Trump was killing 400K people why didn't he resign? He must've liked being on TV or he needed the paycheck.

Maybe Fauci's actual words will help understand what was told to Trump.

 

I have regularly read the words of Dr. Fauci.

But I missed something, I guess.

What did Fauci do to "sign on to Trump's stuff" on February 16th that would Fauci should have said 400,000 Americans were going die?

Fauci indicated there were issues to be very concerned about the disease even then (this is before a pantemic) while Trump feared nothing, it would all do nothing?

Sorry. Did Trump prevent people from wearing masks? Did he prevent the vaccine from being created? Did he personally lick everyone that got Covid? Did he remove aid from hospitals so they couldn’t do what they needed to do? Did he stop the CDC from doing whatever they wanted to do? Did he stop states from doing what they wanted to do? Did he FORCE anyone to do anything that put them in harms way? Nope, nada and no.

Trump didn’t do ANYTHING that got people killed. But Democrats sure as **** destroyed businesses. They also allowed rioters to burn the country for billions. They allowed rioters to shoot cops and murder each other. They prevented federal aid from from coming in to protect citizens from rioters.
