Bill Gates to begin with, did not invent the Internet. He was a major player in making it possible, as in the whole computer revolution, yes, but, let's be honest. He's really just one big cog in a machine. The major use of the Internet is now and will remain for some years, to be porn. That's a fact, not a joke. It has many other uses, of course, but up until social media became popular porn was it's main raison d'etre for most people. There IS communication and banking etc and they were not small segments but none of them, to my knowledge affected and changed an area of business like the Internet did porn. Porn used to be a semi-legal very small segment of the American economy. It is now probably our fastest growing industry. Above all, it is now respectable And Hugh Hefner, from the mid 60's on, ran the only segment of the porn industry in the US that was seen as respectable. Guccione and Flynt were both Johnnie Come Latelys and Flynt was never really respectable. So why is Hugh worth only 43 million to Gate's 72 billion? That figure really surprised me. I didn't think he'd really be close to Gates but I thought he'd be up in the Zuckerberg range. Instead, he's almost paltry. J.K. Rowling is worth more. What gives?
Hugh hasn't ran the company in DECADES and all print media has been suffering since the web made porn free....otoh, Billy got married and hasn't been throwing huge parties every day of the week either.
Bill Gates had nothing to do with the internet. Bill Gates became rich by selling an operating system en mass at a time in which operating systems were generally made for specific machines and so volume of sales was low.
Bill Gates contributed far more to society than Hugh Hefner did. Also, at least Bill Gates has class.
