I can accept that in this vast universe that there could be other life forms.

And that some of those could be very intelligent, way more so than anything we have here, on this planet.

And while there are those that claim to visitiation and interaction with such beings, I draw the line there. Not because I do not believe it possible that their science and technology could not permit them to travel fast distances, in short times, not at all.

No, the most logical reason to me, as to why they would not present themselves, least not en masse, and in an overt manner, is that they are intelligent enough to realise that our species are still very primative, and have a history for killing each other, for perceived cultural or physical differences. Not very encouraging if you are a team of alien scientists or ambassadors, esp when your culture and look is going to be far and away different to anything man has seen before!

This intelligence would tell them it would be dangerous to do this, and to interact with mankind, just as our intelligence tells us that placing our hand in a flame will bring pain.

You avoid it - they avoid it.

Now, I know what you're thinking, that if their science is so far ahead, that surely they would be able to repel any aggression? Maybe. Depends on what emphasis they placed their science. They may simply not have placed an emphasis on using it on weapons to protect and destroy, for example.

But even if they did, they may not wish to be placed in a situation in which they would have to use them, after all, if their intent was not a bad one, but they were set upon by ignorant humans, what was intended as a non malevolent visit, may have to end with humans dying!

So, without saying that I have absolute evidence of anything, I feel I can see a logic as to why an intelligent thinking species would avoid one they feel is primative and aggressive.

    Thoughts?

The reason that they don't come here is that there is no intelligent life here for them to find.

People study ants and if the ants sting them they can just step on them.

But as I have said, they may wish to do anything other than use force, but by humans being so tribal and aggressive, what starts as as well intentioned visit, turns into one in which they are forced to go against what they wanted to do.

If you see what I mean?

Why would aliens have to be peaceful?

There may be no one answer to that, since we could be speaking of not one, but multiple species, from vastly different places, all of whom would have vastly different brains, perception of things, and objectives, if in fact they had any at all.

However, I am going to take the view that if these aliens were anything but peaceful, able to get here, and with advanced tech and science, then they most likely would have shown themselves, and attacked us, by now.

Nature is cruel. Presuming they came to be in the natural world, which isn't much of a leap, they will be equipped to repel the cruelty of nature. We study savage creatures. We make pets of them even. Cats are cruel and wicked creatures. Snakes, scorpions...

It is ridiculous to think that they would be unable to protect themselves.

It is also unlikely that they would come down like the mayflower with trinkets and gifts. They would send a robot first.

There was a TV program out in the sixties called..."My favorite Martian" where we got our first sci-fi look into traveling and actually visting other planets, and to mingle among the inhabited martians. I have the feeling that you're not so comfortable living here with us homo sapiens, and that perhaps you wouldn't mind sharing experiences with a martian on another planet and perhaps in another time frame. :) Perhaps we could deep freeze your body and then ship it off to Mars to be revealed at any given time in that galaxy of wonderment.

There are plenty of other planets out there with intelligent life- it's just that the Universe is so gosh darn big that the distances to reach another planet with intelligent life is in the hundreds of thousands of light year range.

I think we are a pretty advanced society. We have hundreds of satellites in space and have been using radio for over a century. You can also see proof of life on Earth from a thousand light years away, so it's a simple matter of no one within 10,000 light years from us to discover us.

You mentioned we are savage and kill each other... I don't see how an alien spaceship could make that conclusion by looking through a telescope so that is not a factor.

We also forget how different every planet is... we take for granted that aliens can breathe Earth air which I almost guarantee you they can't and our 1G is unique to us.

Neither of can possibly know what their objective might be.

There could be a thousand possible objectives. Ten thousand.

I did not say they would be unable to protect themselves, more that they may not wish to be put in a siutation where they may need to, against a species they do not want to harm.

    Precisely.

    For just a century.

So, if ONE planet in our universe has ONE species of life, whose science and tech had not just been with them for a century, but for a millenia, what do you suppose they would be capable of? In theory, what they could do would look like science fiction, even to our best scientists of the moment.

It very much is a factor.

Would you walk into the lions den, unless you really needed to?

    Of course not.

Then could have come to this conclusion about us (which would be right), in any number of ways. No one mentioned using a telescope to do it.

Much like fishes in a bowl, we are just pets for huge people. We may be organisms so small that we live inside a universe of super large amebas.

Indeed this could well be the case.

    Moreover, think about this.

We are speaking about contact and interaction with beings that are hypothetically a millenia or two ahead of our best science and technology.

Not to mention a vastly different culture, history, and psyche.

Could it even be that they would not be able to teach us anything, or even communicate a message that we could grasp, if we are, to them, like ants?

Can our scientists teach ants anything?

Of course not. Therefore, it may well be that to another species, we would be the ants.

My point exactly, our earth is just some living organism in another cell and it is just a novelty like a pet for a larger universal entity to feed and take out on walks.

Here is something that I find curious.

In nearly every reported case of contact, the beings have been vaguely humanoid, to one degree or another.

The reason I find this interesting, is that you would imagine that even if the evolutionary process is not unique, that when you look at the vast difference in life on this planet alone, it would seem rather improbable to me that the species would look so human!

Have those that experience and report such things no imagination, or would their report sound even less plausible, if the key figures did not appear humanoid?

For instance, psychologically, we may find it 'easier' to believe their story, if the aliens are humanoid, but if he said the aliens were all blobs of silicon, we would be less inclined to believe it, imo.

Probably explains why religionists believe man was made in 'gods image' - same process, it is more likely god was made in man's image.

Our capacity for violence might be what draws them to us? It's impossible to know, considering they have an entirely non-human psychology.

Maybe they just want a challenge? Maybe they want us to do their fighting for them? Who really knows?

All is possible, however, you would have to think that if this were there intention, then they would have acted on it by now.

    They haven't.

As far as I am aware, there are no humans fighting on behalf of an alien race.

Yea, I find that interesting too. In psychological terms, people who have these encounters are likely esperienceing a ego to super ego moment where their projections of a humanly similar creature is of higher intelligence and ability. Hence giving the one who encountered hope not fear that they too will have the ability someday to acheive what this ailen creature has.

But I digress, on earth almost all creatures, human included, are bi-structure humans with a intermingling to reproduce. What I point to here is all genious and species have one side of the body similar to the other, almost two of everything in theri body. Also they all need H2o to survive. And they all need to have a way to reproduce.

So I have no doubt that on this planet, this is the structure for living evolving organisms. But I whould be interested in finding evidence that other life exists and evolves in a different way.

Can we consider the existance of a rock a form of life without getting into exestentialism? Can we clearly say that the life of a spinning orbiting planet (other than the earth) with evolving temeratures and climates and gassess is or is not a living evolving thing in itself?

I have a theory, so I will share it.

Let's assume that not all are lying or deluded, and that what they are reporting are real events. Now,as I say, it would seem strange, unrealistic even, that the aliens would almost always be humanoid.

Maybe, just maybe, the alien does that for the benefit of the contactee?

After all, I would imagine that it would be taxing enough to be faced with a being that claims to be from another planet, without that creature appearing as anything other than 'human'.

So, while they may appear to us that way, it could be something the aliens do, to make it less hard for our minds to cope with.

They may be able to assume different shape and form.

They may not even have a 'true' form themselves, they could have evolved to not need a physical form, which is limiting anyway.

Well there you go; your last statement could be the resolve. they are realy exist in forms to which humans can't see.

But if a organism can transform in to another, why then not a exact image and one that is green, with a large head? Or insert itself in a human and use the human as a instrument for communication.

    Good question.

If my theory were right, and they have no true form, but can assume a humanoid form, to make it mentally easier for the person they are communcating with, why only humanoid, why not an exact replica?

Perhaps they have done this, as well, at times?

Perhaps they have presented themselves in a human form, and even 'used' said human form to send someone with a particular message, one that would be talked about by our species, for a millenia or two..?

I had a naging suspicion it was comming to this.
I was thinking something more in the form of a real human, not a mythological one. And if so, on a ongoing basis. LOL.

I just found some of the art from that period interesting, and thought you might, as well.

And I was just running with your idea that they would perhaps assume entire human form, and perhaps had done so, at various points, in history. Men who appeared particularly 'prophetic', or even who appeared to have some 'supernatural' quality.

You seem to be inclining more to a sort of mass of aliens appearing to be humans, now and in the present, living among humans, as ordinary citizens, am I right? As a theory? Well, yes, interesting theory, it is almost infalsifiable though. And there would have to be an objective to it, else why do it? To collect data? On what? Humans? How long does it take to collect whatever data they need?

Not actual questions I expect you to have an absolute answer for - merely thinking out loud sort of questions.

Calm down now. It is possible, but unlikey. This is as far as I go on this train. But before I go, here is a question; are there invisible spririts that mange and govern the universe wihout making themselves visible or known to the human?

Gotta go, this is my Stop.
