From when I was a very loyal Democrat and including right now, I have believed in Andrew Young. This man is very very good. Both parties can learn from him. Chuck Todd tried to get him to hate Trump but he refused the bait. Will forum members please end the habit of screeching racist!!!! Thank you and please do not tell me you must screech racist at posters. But tell me if you are pleased by what Andrew Young tells all of us.

Andrew Young gives a good message here. But, he says nothing about what to do about this president.

What he gets right:
He talks about not just telling a drunk that he's a drunk. Good idea. However, there are really only two directions with drunks - waiting however long it takes for them to crash and/or performing an intervention. But, we can't afford to let him crash. It's just FAR too damaging to America both in the US and in terms of our position in the world. So, what remains is intervention.

What Young gets wrong:
Nobody is yelling racist at Trump. When I note his racism, I'm asking others to recognize this racism. People are rallying America to recognize a serious problem and, following that, to DO something about it.

Young missed that entirely.

I know Andrew Young did well in working with racists in his era. He talked about education through working together. Great! However, Trump isn't interested in working with anyone at all. In fact, I don't know how anyone COULD work with him, given how rapidly he disavows every decision he's claimed to make.

PLUS, Trump is applying his racism to American policy, affecting all America AND other nations across the globe. That's not the same as some civil rights issue in Alabama or whatever. Losing decades of sanity in Alabama is one thing, but today we are affecting the entire world, including our place in that world.

Can a guy as old as Trump who is so steeped in racism be changed through education?

In fact, it is "white first" even in the face of the damage that does to AMERICA both here at home and around the globe - pushing allies away while fueling those who oppose us. It's a concession of American influence while getting only negatives across the board in return.

It's a total denial of what we stand for as a nation - or once claimed to stand for.

It draws into doubt what America even IS.
