I'd agree; I'm sure he'd have probably been impeached in both houses and ended up either in jail, completely disgraced or both.

Requested less spending every year than Congress authorized and spent and they refused to pass the spending recisions he sent to them.

It wasn't necessary. It was racism, pure and simple. Many American citizens of Japanese descent joined the military in WWII and served honorably, while none were convicted of treason or espionage. Two white Americans were convicted of treason for spying for Japan. Aiding a crashed pilot, of whatever nationality, would be a typically American thing to do. I don't like to see civil rights suffer during war because there's no guarantee that a) the war will end soon, and b) the civil rights will be restored come the end of the war. As it is, we're almost in a state of near-perpetual war, considering the War on Terror and then whatever local wars the current president wants to involve us in, like Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Grenada, etc., etc. Suspending civil rights for the sake of war could end up being a permanent condition.

Sure did but they were sent to fight to the Italians and Germans, wrong to try to have them fight their family. Aiding a crashed pilot is one thing, aiding him taking over an island is another. Of course the civil rights would be restored, what do you think the war was being fought for? And who knows how long the war would last? How is that relevant?

The US is not in a state of perpetual war not by choice, if you declared it over do you really think the bad guys would do the same?

The current president came to power promising to END foreign entanglements. Do tell me how he is trying to involve the US in Somalia and Grenada?

Yes, for which liberal Democrats said they were sorry for having done to Japanese-Americans well after the fact and promised this nation that they would never do anything like that again . . . until next time it -- or something fascism-related -- is convenient for them or for their party.

Syria - Obama; Iraq - Bush II; Somalia - Clinton; Iraq - Bush I (though not much choice there, I agree); Grenada - Reagan. When I said "current president", I meant the one in office at the time. Try to keep up.

If civil rights are suspended for the duration of a war, and then the war drags out for 20 years, don't you think that's relevant? And yes, when General MacArthur declared the war over, it was because the Japanese had signed the surrender documents on board the USS Missouri. Part of the problem we have today is because we don't define victory, we don't demand our opponents admit defeat.

Obama did jack all in Syria, that was one of his problems, Bush Sr actually intervened in Somalia it was Clinton who cut and ran. As long as the war lasts what is necessary to win the war must last. You're not fighting a nation state here, there is no government to sign the surrender document.

Those who beat the drums of war the loudest are those who will never have to go.
