IF Trump has his way.... Torture will be reinstated. reducing the US to a new low......in the same category as other despot nations that torture, discriminate, and other UNCIVILIZED behaviors. Sadly the US already is a culture of violence.. So it might just be the natural progression of this violent nature.

 

This brings up the debate about whether 'enhanced interrogation' is actually torture or not.

The line being that you must subject yourself to waterboarding to know whether it's torture or not. Most people who've tried it say that it's torture.

 

Torture doesn't even work. It gets people to say whatever they think will make it stop, which isn't necessarily true or useful information. Honestly, the entire CIA ought to be abducted to the Hague and tried, followed by a speedy and unceremonious execution

Interesting that nobody on the Left knows that Barack Obama initially continued with Special Renditions during the first few months of his presidency, until he got gently -- and the MSM did EVERYTHING g-e-n-t-l-y where THEIR leftist Political Messiah was concerned -- busted. Then supposedly the U.S. government ceased participating in Special Rendition; oh, which was government sanctioned torture parceled out to friendly nations willing to do our dirty work for us.

 

Of course torture does work, depending on the type of torture engaged in and the type of person being tortured. Only genuinely naive or ridiculously stupid people think that the average person could stand up to torture and would have the presence of mind to lie about important things when the going got tough and the nerve endings and horror became overwhelming.

 

Do you think that everyone being tortured has useful information? They don't. They just make up **** when they don't know and they want it to stop.

Pompeo/Haspel really doesn't matter who's dir of CIA if Trump says he wants torture they will do what they are told, the same way Haspel did what she was told. If America truly had an issue with torture they shouldn't have voted for Trump, he didn't make any secret of how he feels about torture during his campaign.

If a member of a team-- roaming NYC or anywhere else in the country and planning to blow the place up-- was captured and would not provide information voluntarily, I certainly hope so.

 

That's the myth, that people being tortured have both the presence of mind and the self-control to just 'make things up'. In general, however, it is a 'myth' that discounts human physiology and mental stamina. It's based on the handful of natural warrior types who CAN withstand torture and then applied as a 'truth' across the human spectrum. It is, in other words, stupid. Humans can and do 'break' under sufficient types of torture and they do sing like damaged song birds.
