Wuhan Celebrates the End of Its Coronavirus Lockdown After 76 Long Days
(WUHAN, China) — The lockdown that served as a model for countries battling the coronavirus around the world has ended after 11 weeks: Chinese authorities are allowing residents of Wuhan to once again travel in and out of the sprawling city where the pandemic began.

As of just after midnight Wednesday, the city’s 11 million residents are now permitted to leave without special authorization as long as a mandatory smartphone application powered by a mix of data-tracking and government surveillance shows they are healthy and have not been in recent contact with anyone confirmed to have the virus.

The occasion was marked with a light show on either side of the broad Yangtze river, with skyscrapers and bridges radiating animated images of health workers aiding patients, along with one displaying the words “heroic city,” a title bestowed on Wuhan by president and Communist Party leader Xi Jinping. Along the embankments and bridges, citizens waved flags, chanted “Wuhan, let’s go!” and sang a capella renditions of China’s national anthem.

It's worth pointing out the differences between the way China dealt with coronavirus and how other countries, including the US, dealt with this pandemic. Will we have learned any lessons from China? China has phased in freedoms incrementally. First allowing people to return to the city, then allowing shops and stores to reopen. But every citizen is still required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. The difference is that the Chinese give their oath to a 'totalitarian' government and Americans give their oath to money/capitalism. Whatever the cost, the people of China committed to beating this virus because they consider it a "shame", so the government said put an end to it, and that's it, they ended it now, whatever the cost was.

In other countries, including the US, everyone is on their own and many are using the opportunities this virus presents in order to profit off of it. The US has no shame and ruthless when it comes to capitalism.
