Being from Boston, I have been watching this rivalry since the 80's (I know, it goes back further but I wasnt yet a thought)

I thought for sure the sox would be out this weekend. . Being swept by the yanks in Fenway didnt surprise me. I almost expected it. But losing 2 from the O's did. I just didnt think the sox would sweep the Nats and being down 5-1 in the 6th didnt look good. But what a comeback

Anyway isnt this amazing? There is no closer rivalry in sports IMO in terms of the numbers. Its amazing how these 2 sooner or later meet and how close the numbers always are when they play each other. Whats also funnny is they are either killing each other or they are in tight 1 or 2 run ballgames. And its like every year`, the Sox come out swinging and win like 8 out of 10 and the the Yankees do the same in the 2nd half.

    This year Series: 10-9
    75 vs 74 runs
    16 hr's vs 14 hr's against each other

I remember many years ago I saw a stat where these 2 teams faced off 889 total times and I think the yanks had the edge 845 vs 844

So epic between these 2 teams . And there is never a HF advantage. TBH, as a sox fan, I wish they were at Yankee stadium.

I thought it was the best of 5 games; now it's only based on one game? Did they eliminate the other four games to save money?

Okay that explains it then. As you can see, I don't watch much baseball. :)

Well a few years ago they added a 2nd WILD Card team and they would play each other for the WC spot. But this almost went for a 4 game playoff. Had the sox lost in their last game, The Blue Jays, Yanks, Sox and Seattle would have all had the same record and would have played each other for that WILD Card game. That would have been ... well, pretty WILD

This may sound strange but the sox being swept by the yanks in Fenway at the end of the year kept the yanks ahead. Had 1 game outcome been different, Blue Jays would have been in that 4 team WC playoff and nobody wanted to play the red hot blue jays. BTW, Yankess had said they wanted Boston in the post season. Be carefull what you wish for

Anyway, I dont think the Sox have the HP for the rays. For me, the wolrd series was the Yankees game - lol. To see the sox eliminate them again in the Post season was magical
