I live in a tiny apartment. If you break in here, there is no place for either of us to go. But I know where the guns are, and that's where I'm going. Whatcha' gonna' do?
Lots of assumption in your position. The very loud noise also tends to scare burglars and the alarm system logo on the windows and doors are a good deterrent if they are from a known alarm system provider who doesn't sell stickers and signs so people can fake it. At which point they might be shot by a real intruder. I just find these discussions somewhat entertaining. My across the street neighbor is a former local police detective who now is a federal agent. He has dealt with some pretty bad things people. He doesn't carry when he is not working. He keeps his weapon in a safe when he is home, and on most days, he leaves his front door open and only closes and locks the storm door. He doesn't imagine horrible people. He goes after them and he isn't as paranoid about being a crime victim as I see many gun lovers on this site and other exhibiting. He does have a burn barrel and every scrap of paper with anybody in his house's name on it gets burned instead of put in the garbage. As he puts it, a criminal with a computer is more likely to (*)(*)(*)(*) up your life than an intruder.
So you would be shooting in the direction of your children in the dark. Hope you have some hefty walls and none of your kids come running to see what is wrong with the dogs.
What choice do I have? Let them at my kids? My dog will be chewing on their throat or they will be shooting at my dog, so I won't be "shooting in the direction of my children in the dark". My other 2 small dogs will be constantly telling me where the intruder is. I will be very sure of my target. My kids have instructions to "shelter in place" during a home intrusion. They will be armed with knives or baseball bats in their rooms. My youngest 13 year old is bigger than I was going into the military at age 22. He has literally knocked the cover off of a baseball in a game.(I'm sure it was defective, but still...) My house will be a very dangerous place for a home intruder.
I am not angry at all. I do not live my life filled with anger and fear therefore having a gun would be as psychologically comforting to me as a third nipple.
A ridiculous response. Try breaking into my house and you can make any assumption you want, but I will make none. Just because you're incapable of defending yourself don't ASSUME that the rest of are not.
Someone is going to be out to shoot you but not shoot your dogs when they are attacking them. Yeah right. I bet you are so wealthy and powerful Ninja assassins come after you daily.
If I thought you had a clue that you even remotely knew what you're talking about I'd probably respond in a more meaningful way. And son, you're not even remotely in the game here. Some of us, in fact many of us have not only the testosterone but the means and training to defend ourselves quite readily. Home defense is not fighting room to room through mouse holes and sandbags, hoping that a grenade doesn't come in first. I don't know why you think that some thug rat has some sort of advantage or is a superman inside my home turf. - - - Updated - - - If I thought you had a clue that you even remotely knew what you're talking about I'd probably respond in a more meaningful way. Sorry but many posts I see by gun zealots on message boards strike me as just a lighter version of a WDBK Manifesto. Some people think the blacks/government are out to get them and some think it is the white man or the police. I don't see a difference between the paranoia
<Reply to Deleted> - - - Updated - - - Being ready to defend you home and family is not paranoia it is hoping for the best and being prepared for the worst, it is how mankind has survived.
Sure that is what it is when people talking about the government coming for their guns--hope and preparation.
You are straying off topic, and if you knew what I have posted on that topic you would not even bring it up with me. Now back to protecting ones Family and Property.
So you are going on record to state that it is paranoia to pay attention to stories in the news, detailing how people are victims of violent crime?
solution? keep a gun at home. or a baseball bat by your bed. and have a security system. problem solved.
Let me paint a picture for you with two imaginary worlds. In the first world, every time someone tries to take your hard earned property, or rape your wife, or attempt to kill you, the choice is to run. If unable to run, the choice is to not resist and go into "hands up, don't shoot" mode. We saw how that went in the OP's first post. In the second world, every time someone tries to take your hard earned property, or rape your wife, or attempt to kill you, the choice is to grab your firearm. Thanks to foresight and the realization there are bad people in the world, you've trained your wife and your children to use weapons as well. Then you fight back, willing to end the life of criminals who want to harm you and your family. If I were a criminal, I'd want you to chose the first world to live in. The rest of us are not afraid. We stand and fight. People who are afraid run.
