This was probably the first movie I ever saw in a theater ( the Planet of the Apes was the second). I first saw this iconic film as a very young child, and its scenes were etched into my long -term memory. I was in awe of scope of the beauty and those pure soprano notes bursting from Julie Andrews. That first scene filmed over those Alps with the sounds of birds mixed with the opening sounds of the flutes, into the full orchestrata w/ Maria running into open view in that wildflower field - to begin the title number, is one of the most dramatic introductions a character/ actor that has ever been provided by a script/ director. A visually and musically stunning way to meet this young woman. For comedy - that moment after the Nazis run to their cars in pursuit of the Von Traps and try to start their engines... "Reverend Mother, I fear I have sinned." " I too, have sinned" "What is the nature of this sin?" They hold up the wires and pieces of the car engines.
