I found a lost kitten but I can't do anything for it. Im working out of town and not going home for a week or more, leaving this area early in the morning. I gave it a hotdog and some water.

    So here's a 'hail mary.'

If you're near Yuba City, CA and want a kitten, hes hanging around the Days Inn and Econolodge Inn. Hes very vocal and only a little afraid of people.

If ur on one of those 'lost pet' sites or w/e, maybe pass this around.

I was in a similar situation and ended up taking the cat home. It was older, about a year, and instantly bonded with me. No one else could touch her. But I could pick her up and hold her. She would growl at me but never bit or scratched. And for some reason I knew she wouldn't. Her body language just didn't jive with her vocal objections.

I came back to my hotel room one night and she was waiting by my door. I opened the door and she ran in, jumped on the bed, and went to sleep. :D I thought, well, okay... I called the office and they said she had been living in the parking lot for about six months, and winter was coming. By the time I left I couldn't bear to leave her behind.

She ended up being a wonderful cat. And she loved me like no other! :D It was strange but we had an instant bond. She died about four years later from some kind of poisoning. Oh man, I was devastated. We only lost two cats to an unnatural death in 30 years, and one of them had to be her.

This was rather amazing. We had another cat that just adored her. But she would have nothing to do with him. She mostly stayed down in my office and he stayed up in the house. He NEVER came to my office. But if she went up there, he would do his best to win her affections until she got tired and left. We both loved that cat.

When she died, as I said, I was devastated. Our male cat clearly understood the loss and came down to my office for three days straight. He stayed right by my side. If I got up or went up to the house, he followed me. But the next morning he was waiting to go back down and sit by my side. After three days he went back up to the house and never came to my office again.

We just drive them out in the desert because its a fairly safe bet the coyotes will end their suffering rather quickly.

Better then letting them die on the street and being thrown in the trash.

At least another creature can use their death to live.

That is probably a crime. We always had strays showing up on our property. But I discovered that it would be a crime to just dump them in the mountains again. Not that I would, but how screwed up is that? Someone else dumps them. They land at our place. And I have to keep them, or pay to take them to animal control, or be in violation of the law. Anyways, it is often illegal to dump off an animal in the wild.

Not if they are feral to begin with.
