Judge Dismisses Republican Lawsuit Over Obamacare Subsidy For Congress

    Excerpts:

MILWAUKEE, July 22 (Reuters) - "A federal judge has thrown out a U.S. Senator's legal challenge to a part of President Barack Obama's healthcare law that grants health insurance subsidies for members of Congress and their staffs.

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin had challenged the right of the federal government to continue making employer contributions to Congressional health insurance plans even when lawmakers and their staff purchase coverage through new Obamacare online exchanges.

U.S. District Judge William Griesbach, in Green Bay, dismissed the lawsuit on Monday, saying Johnson had failed to show he had been harmed by the regulation.

"There is nothing in the Constitution stipulating that all wrongs must have remedies, much less that the remedy must lie in federal court," Griesbach, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush, said in his decision.

After the ruling, Johnson said he still believed the Obama administration was exceeding its legal authority."

IMO: In this instance I agree with Senator Johnson who challenged the part of Obamacare that granted subsidies for members of Congress and their staffs, even when they purchased their insurance plans online. This was just another governmental give-a-way to Congressmen and their staff.

The very essence of Obamacare was to get medical insurance on a universal stance in America. This was done to ensure that everyone has the best chance to live longer, stay healthier, and be able to afford it. With governmental double-dipping for certain citizens over others, it defeats the main agenda of Obamacare.

It also says that before making any laws, Congress looks out for itself, their families, their staff, with the government still making money while millions of Americans remain too poor to afford Obamacare. It makes a mockery out of a plan that started out as a potential life-saving mechanism for American citizens and was affordable. I smell a deal between John Boehner and President Obama.

Most people got insurance through their employer before the mandate was ever considered. Same goes for congressional staff.

They shouldnt get special treatment. They make alotta money, they should pay taxes like everyone else.

Why do you think senators and congress people deserve more rights than the average citizen?

That BS may work with the politburo, but it doesnt work in America

Definitely. It kinda defeats the purpose, and spirit, of universal healthcare. I don't see how Senators need subsidies for healthcare access, but I certainly see how the poor would. Congressional staff members should pay for their own insurance. If they qualify for subsidies, then that's great. If not, oh well.

Damn, I accidentally blogged this. :hmm:

They still pay taxes. Why shouldn't they get their benefits paid for like they did before?

Sounds and reads to me the law was poorly thought out and written, with all the changes forced or delayed someone might think ACA was rushed into service. A rookie move. Not a good way to represent the public or put unnecessary burden on the backs of the poor and middle class.
