Now Obama is laughing off the idea that government plays any role in the price of gasoline... Just a few years after he ran on the idea that the Bush administration had caused a skyrocket in gas prices. I'm sorry, but even if you think his progressive socialism is perfect, you simply cannot ignore how much of a friggin hypocrite he can be!
Would you mind providing a source of Obama saying Bush cause the rise in gas prices? He more then likely did but I would like to see what he said.
As a Republican, I have to agree with this. You can't have it both ways. Sure you can always say "I mean... the policies of the Bush Administration set an ambiance of investing in commodities" all you want- nothing has changed... people are still short-selling petroleum- the root cause of this problem. Logically, the only solution is the socialism of Big Energy to control these things- a very anti-Conservative idea.
Obama is absolutely CORRECT in recently stating that oil is a GLOBAL market. And that is why drilling here, affects prices of gasoline little if at all. I knew that over 3 Presidents ago. It is one of the reasons I know that developing and domestically producing alternate sources of energy is most likely the BEST way to go (for the future). Frackin' political realities have led many politicians to at least 'seem' hypocritical. Obama has been one of the more reasonable, real and honest politicians in American history. Even so, I understand why many could disagree with certain positions he takes as POTUS; decisions/policies don't always seem as clear to us who must consider far less than they tend to. If it were truly easy to be POTUS... it would not grey the hair (age) of the person who holds the office, as much as it does.
While I certainly agree with you, I get the sense that obama and company are destroying our nation on purpose, and that they have just enough dupes and ignoramuses to go along with his scheme. You see, obama is following the Cloward/Piven strategy to bankrupt America by over taxing and over regulating every private business so that our nation and our economy will be forced to give in to his socialism for the big government takeover starting with our healthcare and working itself further into our private lives. Obama is working from an FDR blueprint to where government controls everything including what foods you eat and what temperature you'll need to set your thermostat at. Its frightening my friend!
I don't know what Conservatives are moaning about. Oil production has increased under Obama. The fact of the matter is oil prices are worldwide, if gas prices go up in the United States chances are they go up everywhere, look at Hurricane Katrina, oil prices universally went up and prices are universally going up again. I agree that Obama doesn't have a good record on energy because he is essentially a conservative on energy.
Take a look back at what happened to the price of gasoline when Bush lifted the ban on drilling in the eastern Gulf of Texas. So the price of oil is global but the gasoline produced by algae will not be affected? We are exporting gasoline today. What makes you think that all the pie in the sky energy sorces that the liberal dreams of won't be exported to the highest bidder? Obama's hair is going grey because he is married to a woman that looks like a man with a monkey's head. And as you might expect from a person who has to look at that face every day Michelle is a little angry with the world. The increases in production started before Obama was elected and you know it or you shouldn't be talking about energy. While the price of oil is influenced by global demand the US still has the greatest influence of all and if we could drill were the new oil is to be found the price would fall and we would have the resources to develop new energy sources.
Wasn't a problem when Bush was in office ... you know ... all the Supply and Demand and Speculation thing everyone said? Oh I'm sorry ... that's only when there's isn't a Black President.
His newest idea is that algae will make fuel "if" we can figure out how, because, by golly, we have a lot of it. Algae? Good Lord, to what depths will this buffoon go?
Why do you liberals think that you're entitled to your own facts? Domestic Oil production is DOWN, not up! And projected to go down 13% this year. In addition, any past gains in production we've experienced have taken place on private land. On public land - the only venue Obama truly enjoys complete control over - oil leases and other permissions granted by this Regime has caused production to drop by 40%. Lots of links there substantiating the article. Obama wants higher energy prices.
Um...I know that interjecting with a fact here will give you fellas an itchy rash, but I'll point it out anyway: If the speculators were speculating on a glut of oil availability, the price would PLUMMET. Speculators simply add volatility to the price of oil, and accentuate the actual market and political realities. Speculators do not increase the price of oil without the fundamentals first causing the increase.
Interesting. What are the fundamentals. you refer to, that have caused the recent increase in the price of gas. It's not a matter of a decrease in domestic supply or an increase in demand. BTW, the recent increase in the price of gas has not paralleled the price of oil. More facts.
Then explain the problem with gas at $1.85 under Bush. Those same " speculators ". Or when Gas was a Buck {$1.14} back in 1990.
Oil production in the U.S. is up because of Bush's policies. I know that's a painful fact to swallow but even the bipartisan Natural Resources Committee is calling Obama out. If I may be so bold as to quote myself from another thread: I won't say he has complete control over gas prices but... http://naturalresources.house.gov/Ne...umentID=229180 For how much he hated Bush, he sure doesn't hesitate to take credit for things he did. The dems seem to be forgetting the effects of speculation here. When Obama continually denies permits/guts permits on public land, he's creating a problem that future presidents will have to deal with as the outlook for growth looks grim, therefore the oil we're producing now is more valuable. So: Obama denies permits. > Speculators raise value. > Prices go up. Looks like he can have an effect on oil prices.
I'll just bet no one knows that Gas has to be Refined. Obvioulsy most here understand that. But what you'all DON'T know is that no matter how much crude gets to the refinery it still costs roughly the same to Refine. Because Refinery costs don't fluctuate very much depending on how much Crude a Refinery has. In fact when there is a surplus of Crude it actually costs more to refine into gas. Therefore Oil shortgages are cost effective for Refineries. The less Crude available means lower refinery costs that can get passed onto the consumer.
The cost of the refining process is greatly increased when EPA emissions mandates have to be adhered to. This creates the need for "boutique fuels", and the need for refineries to change production both seasonally and regionally to comply with the various rules the EPA has imposed on different parts of the country, and at different times. That is a huge part of why gas costs so dámned much - and is an additional cost magnifier when oil supply is disrupted, further antagonizing delivery and reserve inventory. And the speculators see that, and bet which direction prices will go.
It's kinda funny how all the conservatives have left to moan about is the price of gas and..... contraception and abortion! What's wrong, gay-marriage wasn't working well enough as a wedge issue for you? Is that all that you anti-Obama crusaders have?! Bummer for you!
When was the last Mandated EPA emmissions standards put into place. Usually that is major news.Like when Ralph Nader wins one of his Consumer Protection initiatives. Seat belts anyone.
Scoff all you want,You Contrarian. But nothing affects a standard of living more dynamically as the cost of Gas/Fuel. Because gas prices effect most goods to market.
