Santorum: Might as Well Have Obama Over Romney By Will Weissert | Associated Press | 2012/03/23 SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Thursday said Republicans should give President Barack Obama another term if Santorum isn't the GOP nominee and for a second day compared rival Mitt Romney to an Etch A Sketch toy. Santorum reiterated an argument he has made before: The former Massachusetts governor is not conservative enough to offer voters a clear choice in the fall election and that only he can provide that contrast. "You win by giving people a choice," Santorum said during a campaign stop in Texas. "You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there." Santorum added: "If they're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate for the future." Santorum was referencing Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom's comment Wednesday that "everything changes" for the fall campaign. "It's almost like an Etch A Sketch," he said on CNN. "You can kind of shake it up and we start all over again." The remark reignited criticism of Romney as the type of politician who will say or do anything to win. During his speech to employees of USAA, a San Antonio-based insurance and financial services firm, Santorum briefly held up an Etch A Sketch and said his positions don't change like etchings on the toy, which are erased with a shake. He could be seen fiddling with the toy's knobs in the intervals between questions from audience members. "He didn't say 'I am a conservative.' He said 'I'm going to run as a conservative.' So what do you do, you just sort of decide what you're going to be for the elections?" Santorum asked. "No one can accuse me of that. People say, 'Well, you can't win because of that.' No, I will win because of it." The Texas primary has been pushed to May 29 because of litigation over redistricting maps drawn by the Republican-dominated state Legislature. Santorum said he expects to win Saturday's primary in Louisiana and added, "The race will not be over when Texas comes around." Santorum said he speaks with Texas Gov. Rick Perry before scheduled campaign stops in the state. Perry sought the GOP nomination but left the race in January and endorsed former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. http://netscape.compuserve.com/news/story.jsp?idq=/ff/story/1001/20120323/3226.htm ....... As Santorum continues to go down, he is lashing out at the corrupt republican party that cannot embrace his far right evangelical policies, and it really is his last ditch effort to be anybody in politics...maybe somebody should tell him that all those loosely knit radical tea groups are bordering on the chasm of extinction. But Santorum is just as much a corrupt flip-flopper as Mitt Romney for being a wealthy millionaire while posing in a sweater vest as the son of a coal miner to fool the gullible voter. He has a radical agenda and would force his ultra-conservative evangelical beliefs on others that do not harbor the same beliefs. As painful as it is, neither Romney nor Santorum will be acceptable to anyone but their cult followers and it takes the majority to win an election. Perhaps that is why Santorum is ready.to allow the American people a choice...and he picked Obama. But hey, thanks for the Obama endorsement, Rick...although it was obviously a Freudian slip....
I'm certain there's some moderates and center right folks that find Romney palatable... I mean heck the guy will say and be anything you want him to be so long as you'll vote for him. Not that Obama is any different, at the end of the day it's just yet another election where you get the 'privileged' of choosing between the lesser of two evils. I think it's time to stop choosing the lesser:
It will definitely be interesting to hear Santorum's concession speak asking Republicans to vote for Romney over Obama after saying this.
So now Santorum is going to vote for Obama in the national? Wow, way to go Santorum, you really are a fake aren't you?
I think its time to quit playing that game and just do a write in vote. At least then the conscience is clear that you didn't just pound a vote for the devil.
I don't.... understand your logic with this. Most "vs Obama" polls have either Santorum (usually) or Gingrich doing the very worst. Sometimes even losing by double digits. Frankly santorum just really sucks.
Santorum SHOULD have said....."might as well keep obama because romney won't change a thing"....and in the previous election another candidate could have said...."go ahead and elect obama because nothing will change". Romney, obama, bush, newt, santorum, palin, clinton, etc....matters not. They are all bought and paid for by the corporations, banks and wall street.
