Here is a poll saying 53% of Americans will blame the GOP if no deal is reached on the fiscal cliff. To me that asserts President Obama's election MANDATE to raise taxes on the rich. The ball is in the GOP court now, if no deal is reach its solely the fault of the republican house. Those are the facts. Taxes will be going up on the rich, just accept it, you will be paying a little more if you make over 250k a year. America has spoken....Again.
This election was not a ringing endorsement of Obama. Most people don't like one term presidents, they feel it is disruptive to change every four years and Mitt just wasn't different enough or engaging enough to change their minds.
Americans can't think more than two weeks ahead. The US goes over the fiscal cliff at the end of the year. The next set of elections is two years away. Americans will have forgotten by that point in time. Let the US go over the fiscal cliff. That will cause a reduction in the US credit rating and will make borrowing more expensive and difficult. That's a good thing.
A wise person would wait till we go over the cliff, then look at the reasons, and the event leading up to it before making a determination of what parties are at fault. Anyone who has made up their mind about who put us over if before it happens is likely operating with little information and little cognitive ability. Up to now I would say that both sides are culpable as the cliff has been a long time coming and neither did the right thing to help avoid it earlier. Both have done the politically expedient thing in the moment and said screw long term. But if you want to obtain blame for the straw that breaks the camels back... well I will wait to see how it plays out before I make my final judgment. Of course partisan hacks will do otherwise.
Americans can blame whomever they like, in the end history will record it as another Obama achievement.
And if the Republicans do not give up their arrogant, inflexible position on this issue, they will be voted out by the people in 2014 and will be replaced by MORE DEMOCRATS. It has already started in 2012!
Polls aren't your bag. There are more Democrats than Republicans in the electorate. Did you forget the election results already?
If the Republicans get blamed for it, it will be because of the way they stomped their feet and effectively did nothing in a very public temper tantrum(to which some Republicans outright admitted to doing, and to planning on doing) for the first four years of Obama's term. People notice that stuff too. When you've got a party that has decided they would rather squabble, crow, and complain instead of trying to hammer out a compromise in a situation that isn't what they would have ideally chosen but with which they must live with regardless, people notice that stuff. There's a reason Congress has record low approval ratings, and it's got more to do with the Republican obstructionism than Obama. Ultimately, people want their government to FUNCTION. The Republicans have shown that functionality takes a backseat to partisan (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)baggery. People notice that stuff.
Perhaps the idiot liberals have not noticed that the Republicans have not had control in a very long time. Perhaps they will also realize that 100% of income from those earning over 250k/yr could be confiscated, and we'd still go over the fiscal cliff - because there isn't enough money at that level of income to make a dmned bit of difference. That's how crazily out of whack our spending addiction has become. Perhaps. But probably not.
That's only true on a limited scale. Don't expect a big change in Congress. While a few Repubs will get voted out most will retain their seats. The Dems won't show up to vote them out.
Deal with it. If you are making over 250k you are to pay your fair share with NO breaks. America has spoken and you are to do as you're told.
You'll see when your precious "job creators" are forced to pay their fair share without any writeoffs. The capital gains tax must also be raised to 30%.
I think it is hilarious how *******s are wishing the Republican party would just go away. I hope Congress allows Obama to implement his policies. It seems that more misery is needed to bring people to their senses.
(*)(*)(*)(*) how can we discuss the topic when 2 pages of it gets deleted by one mod? What is ok to discuss?
