Just wondering why Europeans in general have such an abhorrence toward having the right to keep and bear arms?

Personally I think it is envy.

They surrendered their rights ( in most nations ) a long time ago.

They probably also remember the rise of fascism and national socialism and communism and realize any of it can happen again and so they regret giving up their rights to own weapons.

They hate the fact that we refuse to do so.

It's not just firearms but many other differences that they disdain about us. Their governments are far more controlling and intrusive than ours is although our government is headed in the same direction. They hate the fact that many Americans still have a healthy distrust of government and are involved in the political process enough to at least have a some influence.

I am not a European but I imagine after WWI then WWII followed by the Cold War then onto Bosnian War... I am betting Europe has just had enough with war and guns.

Rights are a myth. What people really mean when they refer to rights are values.

Most of Europe values the perceived benefits of gun control more than they value being able to own and trade firearms without being caged.

Most likely this difference is due to the "born in fire" history of the United States. France had a similar rebirth, but their history has been marked by egalitarian class struggle rather than opposition to Federal interference - maybe they're predisposed to care more about the health of the collective as a result.

I think most gun control people have that mentality, that if something within society is leading to dire consequences, then it must be made illegal. Whether or not an individual gun owner has killed another unjustly is not relevant to them because some percentage of gun owners have - and ownership generally causes 10000 deaths per year. That's how it seemed to me when I was a lefty - the group "gun owners" was coercing the public, so they had to be stopped.

I've noticed that none of the usual European based gun grabbing posters have chimed in on this. Surely to God one would think that they would use this thread to explain to us 'uncivilized' Americans their angst with firearm possession by the common man.

I think StJames delivered the klink on the head that has left them all silent. They're conditioned to serfdom. They'd like to think up some argument to justify their condition, but they realize that it's indefensible. Yes. Leader tells me that I'm not to defend myself. Better to pass on this one.

aye, still looking for that deathblow, tho
so many generations, Europeans have lived under tyranny, that they really don't get it, and I feverently believe that. They await with outstretched hands for handouts from their governments. European governments have their monkey's well trained, now they want to pull us down from the banana tree. Euro governments control everything and their respective population expect that.
We, on the other hand, have a unique situation. The gov still depends on us for their welfare checks. That's what we need to stop. The theft of our belongings, including part of our checks. Then they would have to fall back on import and export duties to protect our borders, where it all began.

I find the question in the OP very funny , in General Europeans don't have special needs and it is rare to be heavily attached with inanimate objects.

could it be that you have solved the Muslim problems and the bankruptcy issue facing your country today? If not, you have a serious problem knocking at your door.

Your post has nothing to do with my post or the thread ....instead you are trying to hurt the (non existent) patriotic feelings of a communist
HA HA

Also for what is worth your post is wrong in every possible way.
What muslim problem ? Greece does not give citizenship to foreigners outside very special cases and third or fourth generation immigrants can be thrown into the sea any day.
Greece already had 4 bankruptcies in the last 150 years.... so what?
Greeks are around for 4000 years and we have the capacity to outlive our problems.

oh, you mean back to the days of kings and tyrants?
ok, maybe you can answer the OP question. Why are Europeans so terrified of guns that they feel the need to put their two cents in our business?

Lemme get this straight. Greeks have had 4,000 years to figure out fiscal responsibility, but it remains beyond their capacity. And you offer advice to us?
I might say more, but we're already going in circles here.

Still no answer from our European sheeple. Course if I lived in the lands of the Holocaust I wouldn't say much on taking guns from citizens either.

As a UK citizen I really couldn't give two-figs about the American obsession with guns .. but when you go down the road of making wild accusations about us being controlled and like sheep, then all you are doing is enforcing the stereotype that all Americans are loud mouthed, ignoramus people with a phallic-like obsession.

now I know that isn't true, so why do you think it is ok to paint using a very wide brush about ALL Europeans, and due to your obvious lack of education, you don't know that owning a gun in the UK is not illegal .. any person can own a gun if they pass the required legal requirements. The difference is that most don't really need to have that phallic-like item to stroke.

So in future please refrain from taring all people you obviously know little about with the same brush and stick to the ones you might know a little about.

Depends on who is defending and who is attacking, could be argued that the Taliban were the defenders in Afghanistan .. how is the peace coming along there?

or Iraq

or is it more of a case of only the peace you decide is the right kind is worth fighting for?

I think they are just too used to getting their rights taken away that they just did it themselves.

We tend to get the same misunderstanding in Australia - One wonders why there are gun shops in London

I admire the Brits, fine group of folks but F the US hadn't bailed you out and shipped your country firearms at the start of WWII you would be speaking German. SO keep what you have as firearms locked up and in unusable form for God forbid you use one in self defense cause you'll go to jail and end up paying the crook.
