Excellent news obviously sparked by the result of the Independence vote and people's need to carry on the dialogue.

The Greens who also are pro Independence saw their membership rise by 3,000.

May it grow. When parties have plenty of members they become responsible to these members for their policies rather than outside finance. A step in the direction of democracy and government accountability.

Oh Yea. According to John Sweeny last night SNP membership now at 65,000. I think that is about half that of the British Conservative Party. Easy to see where interest in Politics is in the UK.

Don't have the numbers but the Scottish Greens and SSP have also at least doubled in size.

There is talk among the Yes campaign of creating a new Political Party. What has happened Munter is that Scottish people have become involved in Politics. For instance at another site I noticed an English poster writing about what was going to happen in England. He said it seems that it is all going to be based in the South. He clearly did not like that but clearly felt impotent to act politically on it. That is what has changed in Scotland and that will not change back to docility regardless of whether we stay in the Uk or not. People have taken politics back from the politicians. They are there to serve us. We are taking power back to the people. ;)

You need to accept that it's over.

You need to quote who you are responding to and make clear what you believe is over..

Sorry Lil. This time you are very very wrong nor are you in a position to make such a positive statement. I was at a meeting last night and I can assure you it is NOT over. It will NEVER be over until independence is reached, It took two referendums to achieve devolution and it will take two to finally achieve independence, BUT IT WILL COME..

The Scottish NATIONALIST Party has become obsolete.

And I am responding to any yes voter who still seems to think there will be another referendum any time soon.

Diamond Lil, I can't believe you just wrote that. The SNP have become obsolete when their numbers have now reached such proportions that they are now the third largest party in the UK??????
My goodness, I realised you were a bit bigotted re the SNP but I didn't think you were that bad. Don't you even see what is happening now.? The party which will probably become obsolete in England has been obsolete in Scotland for a long long time, that is the Conservatives, and the party which appears to be going obsolete in Scotland is Labour. Don't let wishful thinking blind you to fact Lil. By the way, It is the Scottish National Party not the Scottish Nationalists.

    Their aims are obsolete.

The party is made up of nationalists, hence it's name. It has no interest in working as part of the UK.

I feel exactly the same about the English Democrats and any other narrow minded party, so if that makes me a bigot then I'm proud to be a bigot.

In other words Lil, you are incapable of debate or discussion but stick rigidly to your own opinions. I assume then that your knowledge of the workings of the SNP are better than mine although I have been a member for most of my life. Fair enough if that's what you like believe.
I must remember to tell the First minister and leader of the SNP that they have been using the wrong name for the party for all these years.

They certainly are, I was on a website today with people from Glasgow who would never have voted for the SNP. Now they are all signed up and working out how to stop Labour getting elected at the next election. Labour just do not know what they have done. They did say there were probably some who just could not think anew and would stick to Labour but they are working on it!!

SNP's membership was over 65,000 by yesterday evening. Both the Greens and SSP carry on growing too.

Not surprised Alexa. My son, a life long supporter of independence and the labour party along with his wife have now left Labour in disgust and joined the SNP. Not only that but he has also withdrawn his union subscription.
I just found out yesterday that one of the biggest employers in this rural area with a hundred or so workers, had warned his employees that if they voted yes they were likely to lose their jobs. I wondered at the time why so many of his men came to the polling station with their heads hanging down.
How many other examples of that kind of moral blackmail from employers was there I wonder.
The true feelings of the Scottish people in regard to independence have yet to be discovered

I think Labour is finished in Scotland. It has forgotten who it is and what it's purpose was. Just another neo lib party and it's actions in the Referendum have resulted in it now being called the 'Red Tories' and it would have been spent even if yes had won or does in the future.

    http://www.heraldscotland.com/politics/scottish-politics/the-big-issue.25442751

There is as I put somewhere else the desire to build a new Political party in Scotland taking some of the best directions of the old Labour Party. At the same time Nicola will almost certainly move the SNP to the left. We will though need to have some effective opposition so that seems to suggest either the Greens grow massively in influence, not impossible or I am not sure - maybe the new socialist party or something else.

Last night the SNP had 68000 members.

SNP membership almost up to 72,500. It is now something like three of four times the size of all other parties in Scotland.
