President Barack Obama’s approval rating is as high as it’s been since mid-2013, reaching 50 percent on Monday according to Gallup.

“Less than a week after President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union address to Congress, his job approval rating reached 50% in Gallup Daily tracking conducted Friday through Sunday,” Gallup’s Lydia Saad wrote on Monday. “This is the first time the president’s rating has returned to that level in Gallup’s ongoing three-day rolling averages since June 2013.”

This comes as Republicans have backed down from several immigration campaign promises as they seek to “govern” rather than follow through on what they said they were going to do.

Republicans, in late 2014 in the lame duck session of Congress, passed a 1,774-page, $1.1 trillion “cromnibus” spending bill that funded Obama’s executive amnesty—despite prior campaign trail promises from almost every Republican candidate and Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus that Republicans would block funding for it. Not one member of Congress had time to read the text of the cromnibus bill before voting for it.

It wasn’t until the new Congress was seated in early 2015—and after a nearly successful coup attempt against Speaker John Boehner by 25 Republicans in his conference—that the House passed a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spending bill that blocks funding for Obama’s executive amnesty.

The cromnibus debate handed GOP leverage to Obama and then outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid — Boehner relied on Democrat votes to pass it. Still, the House-passed the DHS funding bill could block funding for Obama’s executive amnesty—if the Senate passes it and Republicans could convince Obama to sign it despite his veto threat. Senate Republicans say they will “try” to pass the House-passed bill, but they need to convince at least six Democrats to support it to get past cloture since there are only 54 Republicans in the new GOP-controlled Senate.

In response to Obama’s State of the Union speech last week, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) didn’t mention Obama’s executive amnesty at all. She seems to have since learned that she made a mistake in doing that as she hammered the president’s executive amnesty on stage at the Iowa Freedom Summit in Des Moines this weekend, but the other official Republican response to Obama’s State of the Union—from pro-amnesty freshman Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), in Spanish—actually talked about support for amnesty.

Facinating spin from the people founded on bulls*** "journalism".

Unable to explain the President's approval ratings going up....or just wishing to use it to push their Nativist/Xenophobic agenda, Breitbart has now determined that the reason the President's polls are up is....

because Republicans are "too soft on illegals."

Naturally, the Breitbart audience (and others) will likely buy this rationalization....others on the Right will simply deny the polling is true...and that last contingent of non-delustional...will simply panic.

It's better than Ronald Reagan's and much much better than Bush II's during the same point in their Presidencies.

Not hard to understand Obama's approval rating going up. When you do nothing more than offer more and more give aways, like day care, free two years education, help paying for your home, school debt, amnesty, etc. Hell why wouldn't it go up? Would it be any different no matter who did it? People love getting something for nothing. But it's only stupid Liberals that think it's really free and doesn't cost anything.

Funny...when it was 40% you guys loved the polling. Now that it's 50% you say "No big deal"....wonder what you'd say if....just "if"...it hit 60%?

    - - - Updated - - -

So 50% of Americans are "stupid liberals"?

Odd....that's not what you guys were saying just 2 months ago on Election night??? :)

I love how when his approval rating is low, it's a rejection of his agenda ... but when it's high, it's because he's offering tons of "free stuff". Never mind that his AGENDA HASN'T CHANGED.

Or, as you note, how when voters choose Democrats, it's because the voters are all welfare cheats and "stupid liberals", but when they choose Republicans, those same voters magically morph into responsible patriots.

Partisans: So dizzy from the spin, they lose all grip on logic and consistency.

I thought you Liberals said so many people didn't vote that this election didn't show the people true feelings. Yes, there are enough stupid Liberals out there that will think a lot more of Obama if he pays for all that stuff for you.

You want to get it up to 60%, let him offer a home for everyone.

Choose ONE spin, Marine. Are the American people "smart" for "wising up and voting Republican in November 2014"......or are the American people "stupid" for giving the President a 50% approval rating in January 2015?

You can't do both and not look silly. :)

Hi poll numbers are up because he spent 2 weeks playing golf. The poll is an indication that people want him to stay on the golf course and out of the White House.

Sure, remember, when gas prices were high it was "all Obama's fault"......when they drop a buck a gallon or more, it's "despite Obama."

On "The Hill" this morning was a story about the President seeking more funding to research and fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria.....

naturally, some rightwinger posters showed up to oppose that. Apparently the President could endorse fresh air and sunshine....and they'd say it was "Marxist" if you didn't live in a dark, air-tight box. :)

Sure, Steve....works just as good as the Breitbart "His polls are up because the GOP doesn't hate immigrants enough" spin.

    :D

Remember this folks in 2016. The Democrats are fighting to give jobs away to illegal immigrants over YOU the citizen taxpayers! If you wonder why you have to pay for your kids cars instead of them getting summer jobs in fast food joints, you need only look at Obama and the Democrats. Illegals made legal will gladly make a career out of the jobs your kids used to do for car money and spending cash. So parents, open up your wallets, your kids won't be chipping in anytime soon. But, please don't blame them, the Democrats have stacked the deck against them getting jobs. BTW........The Democrats want to import High Tech workers from other countries so after your kid graduates from college with huge student loans, they will have to compete with immigrants for the High tech jobs thereby driving the wages down. 2016 will be the time to finish the job we started in 2010 and 2014 and get the country back on track again.

Many Americans are stupid to think that all this stuff Obama is offering doesn't have a big impact on the American economy. All they see is, wow, the government has offered to pay my first two years of college. They are going to help pay for my day care, make the payments on my home easier. Even some Republicans could look at Obama more favorably if they thought he would come in and take a load off them. People are greedy. They are also stupid and think they can get something for nothing. Nothing is free. Someone has to pay for it. Trouble is, as long as it isn't coming out of their pocket, they don't care who pays for it.

As for your wanting this immigration reform. I have asked people many times why? Study after study shows this is bad for America and the American worker. Even Obama himself said so. But you and others keep pushing it. Why?

GW Bush has been blamed for much that wasn't his fault. The biggest of which is the ruin of this country. That is one of the biggest lies of the century. Much of what happen to this economy, Bush had nothing to do with it. In other parts, his part was minimal to what others did before him that he got blamed for.

You said 'By what measure? Apparently the American People completely disagree with you'. Then I give you links to what the American people think and you dismiss it.

No one in their right mind should think there is no place in this country for liberalism. The difference between Democrats and Republicans is how much there should be. I think there is enough evidence out there that shows that government has a place in our society, but it should be limited. Liberal don't think so, the more the better. Government isn't smart enough to run this country efficiently. They can run it with an unlimited supply of money, but it wouldn't operate like it should.

Would you take advantage of something offered by the government if you were entitled to it? Or if it were something that would benefit you and perhaps increase the quality of life or help you gain higher education so that you can contribute more to society?

Would you think better of Obama if he did offer you those things? It's not hard to tell why his approval rating went up. It would go up for anyone offering free give aways. But would it be good for the country to keep adding trillions of more debt to the country? Can you just imagine the things the government could fund with just the interest we waste on that debt? The interest just keeps going up. That isn't the right way to run a house hold or a government.
