The Congressional Budget Office has previously said similar legislation would lead to 15 million fewer people with health insurance and premiums that are 20 percent higher. And that’s just in the first year. Good luck in 2018
". "You're going to have such great health care at a tiny fraction of the cost. And it's going to be so easy." ... We will save $'s and have much better healthcare!". Direct from the Liar-in-chief. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/fact...-replace-obamacare-timeline/story?id=46360908
What they need to do is deal with big pharma. A big reason why healthcare costs are out of control. Also, they need to look at administrative costs. We are charged more for drugs and the use of medical equipment than a lot of other countries. I'm sure there ARE ways they can get costs under control or lower them somewhat. This would take a team who knows what they are doing and is very familiar with how the healthcare system operates and not a bunch of partisan hackers or those who just want to blame the health insurance industry. The reason why healthcare insurance is expensive is because medical care is so expensive here.
Obamacare would probably go bust soon enough anyways. You need to have a VERY robust economy to make it work.
If legislators would put in place legislation that (1) deals with big pharma and (2) puts in place tort reform, we'd actually see costs go down. So repeal the Obamacare fiasco, then deal with the issue of costs. Instead, we allow the Dems to control the narrative and press for a single payer system. The question now: will the debate process allow lawmakers to hash it out over the question of what the government's role in healthcare should be? Given the fact that it took having a sick Senator traveling to Washington to get to 50 votes and have the VP cast the tie breaker in order to be able to hear debate on the subject, my confidence in the system is quite low at the moment.
. . . . Or a totally supportive government that actually WANTED it to work. (But we do need to institute cost controls to limit exorbitant profits.)
This is the 5th thread about this. The good news is that maybe now the GOP can move on to something productive.
What percentage should they be allowed to make as profit? Should this same percentage be the same for all industries?
Kind of late for that now. With the bailouts, and the continuation of the corporate welfare State, there are no limitations. Just look at what the Republicans want to do now for the Insurance Companies.
All of that could be done now especially the nominations. They are in control you know. Well, considering the intelligence of most of them what does control mean.
It could be, but they haven't. I believe I saw somewhere that there were over 400 nominees that needed congressional approval just sitting in a holding pattern.
It could be negotiated in order to make it profitable yet affordable. . . . ALL industries SHOULD adhere to that. $500 for an Epipen is nothing less than price-gouging.
Depends on the cost to manufacture and market an Epi-Pen. They already negotiate prices with with doctors and group plan administrators.
I believe they mean those forced into buying it will quit paying for insurance. Back to freedom. How sad, eh? So, let's find out what CBO actually said. https://www.cbo.gov/publication/52941
The CBO has proven to be incompetent at predicting the future. Its partly not their fault, they have to operate under the economic assumptions provided by Congress - garbage in, garbage out. Its a scam, just like it was for obamacare, the democrats fiddled with the assumptions until the CBO came up with the preordained result, reality since 2009 shows how wrong they all were.
The $500 Epipen issue was a fake issue - there are multiple manufacturers of epinephrine injectors, you can get generics for less than $40. From 2007 to 2014, the average out of pocket for an Epipen went from $34 to $75 (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-epipen-costs-idUSKBN16Y24O), hardly the earth shattering calamity that the media and govt claimed. The manufacturer of the Epipen (Mylan) increased its list price of the Epipen to >$600 for Medicaid/Medicare purposes. It was a scam (and Mylan got caught), but people were not paying list price for Epipens. Its just another example of the how govt interference causes problems.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/mone...rs-urge-scrutiny-epipen-price-boost/89129620/ A token gesture. . . . Prices are marked up before discounts applied, making them REALLY unaffordable to the uninsured.
Yea. They are marked up in order to be negotiated down. You can partly blame medicare for that as doctors need to charge more for procedures from private insurance to cover the shortages from medicare/aide. Insurers are happy to pay these hier prices because of the 80% of total income on health care rules under Obamacare. Prices on most things are cheaper if you don't use insurance. That's why concierge care is gaining so much traction.
You are mistaken. . . . Mylan defied the government and refused to negotiate. https://www.howmuchisit.org/how-much-does-an-epipen-cost/
