He got them to believe in themselves and to realize that only they themselves could free themselves through honesty and hard work. They managed to get as far as the Canadian coast, when they realized they wouldn't make it to Japan and debated what to do... give the cargo with all the plans included to the Canadian authorities or rather to the US?

If you want to cry for the German youth, then go to the White House and demand justice for the 1.7 million German POWs, including teenagers, that the Americans starved to death on the Rhine Meadows for no other reason than revenge.
If you want to cry some more set the record straight about the nightly bombings of German cities full of women, children and old and crippled folks.
Cry for all the children your government has killed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Vietnam, Korea, Cambodia etc.
Cry for the Palestinian children who get murdered by Israel, a buddy of your country and you do nothing to stop it!
AND... cry for your own young soldiers who commit suicide daily!!

A very illogical position. Tariffs don't correct trade deficits. They protect domestic businesses or, in the case of Trump's tariffs, they work toward evening the playing field.

Americans buy imports because we have spent decades sending our manufacturing and wealth abroad. If tariffs are bad, then they are bad for everyone. Perhaps some countries will reduce tariffs to motivate the U.S. to do the same. THAT is what this is all about.

 

They do help correct trade deficits.
They do a number of things but acting as correctional influences on trade deficits is very definitely one of them.

Essentially if foreign goods cost more, the incentive is raised to buy domestic (or not to buy them at all)..
And also to manufacture domestically.

That is one difference - the Romans have left behind a good amount of tangible evidence. People can't so easily see the legacy of the Holocaust first-hand. Trump takes measures to distance US from European allies. This encourages China to further influence in Europe and anywhere such withdrawal is considered.
US can very well be the main supplier to EU after Germany but the design was shifted with the 2008 crisis. Italy sort of fragile and corrupt EU economies faced harsh austerities that shrank their productivities and so made them more dependent on German supply. Germany could supply in quality because its economy has always been the strongest in Europe for many decades and they have no corruption that is comparable to that of the PIGS. Germany made this dependency of the PIGS even more practical by enforcing conditional loans on to them. So the situation in time has shaped as a radical decline on Chinese demand. This also meant that the fragile economies of the EU to have lost the only alternative to Germany - given the US withdrawal in process since 2011: Chinese goods.
Up to this point I tried to picture the main theme. We sure can develop this theme into some probabilistic prediction trees under particular hypothesis to come up with certain scenarios.
