"They" may not agree with attitudes with the "Putin regime". I don't either. Similarly I didn't agree with Vietnam (1963) and neither did "they". Sometimes, foreign policy really messes up badly. Such as taking out Baathist gov'ts in the M.E. with a poor understanding how they held a nation together. And how to hold a nation together once taken out. Iraq, Libya, etc. really stupid. Afghanistan, Osama bin Ladin is still dead! Go figure. No to being a Choir with foreign policy. Moi
They're not working against us. China is one of our largest creditors and trade partners. Both sides benefit greatly from the relationship. And since when is Italy an authoritarian regime that works against Americans? Any other countries you want to add to your never-ending list of foreign boogeymen?
It has to do with the cultural and political legacies of the regions. The south was largely occupied by the Roman empire, whereas the north was occupied largely by a Germanic confederation. The Roman empire was based heavily on centralization, bureaucracy, and corrupt patronage systems, whereas the Germanic confederation was based on decentralization, freedom, and rugged independence. That's why the Germans eventually conquered the decadent Romans, and why countries with Germanic cultural backgrounds are the top economic and political powers today.
Another artifact of the Roman empire. France was a Germanic (northern) culture that was occupied by the Roman (southern) empire for centuries.
So why don't you do us a favor and tell your "richer understanding" of how to hold Sunni majority nation(!) together with a Shiite dicta, like in Syria; or to hold Shiite majority nation(!) together with a Sunni dicta, like in Saddam's Iraq; by of course, totally disregarding any potential "oppressive measures" taken by both regimes... By the way please don't bother to discuss if the term "nation" (in its Wilsonian form) may ever be applicable for both states considering their very short sovereign history and shallow political backgrounds... Yes... Educate us...
Please to not delete any part of my quote. Highlight as you like, but do not delete parts. What education do you require. Observe!&! How do you like Democratic Iraq, and Democratic Libya. Remember Egyptian democracy got it wrong so we had to get rid of that gov't and install . . . Infrastructures like roads, water, power, sanitation, etc. destroyed for the blessings of democracy. Nations that had a working economy that supported its' people, GWTW of Democracy. Is that a BRAVO ? I think not. How about YOU. And it was the product of not understanding how Baathist were necessary to hold those nations together. BTW Bush the Sr. understood it and that is why he didn't take out Saddam. I heard him say it after Junior did and he was questioned on his unhappiness over that action. What a deal! The blessings of democracy and a refugee crisis too. It just didn't work so good on Syria. Moi Not Every People Is Fit for Democracy.
Maybe there's a partial truth but I think they got conquered because they let in too many refugees and that's a known fact. After solid immigration from Africa, the Roman Empire came to a halt. And the Holy Roman Empire and the Germanics, they were just North. Far away from Africa. Location plays a great role. That's why Hitler did not invade Switzerland. The Germans, they were mainly tribes from the so called "Vandals" and other savages. They didn't possess anything. The Romans gave them books and literature.
Please, dear Alexa, don't be a stick in the mud! Tattertaling and reporting people to the Authorities is something little kids do. You are too refined and intelligent!
All I see advertised is the Fiat 500, they don't sell all their models in the US. The Spider is cool looking but I don't think I've seen one on the road in my area.
Gosh... Whatever "pal"... Better check your knife in the glove box before getting on the Melbourne highway... You never know who you confront with...
No. I've moved on since then. However if you care to reply to my post before this, that would not be entirely unwelcome.
I like tha Alfa I posted. Too expensive though. I prefer the old Lancia Delta Integrale or a old HEMI from 68-69.
