Uh huh. I ditched my drafting machine long ago. You probably pine for the old days.

The B-36 started development in 1942. The B-49 wasn’t even designed until 1947, a year after the B-36 was accepted for production.

Close air support? My father was involved in trying to get Northrop to design the A-9 to be competitive with the A-10. Fairchild Republic mounted the engines outside the fuselage and high, whereas the A-9 did not--great for sucking up dirt on forward airfields and wonderful for losing the aircraft to a missile.

Fortunately, the DoD chose the right plane. The DoD told Northrop they didn't like the design, but the dummies missed the memo.

So clearly cutting funding like the GOP wants will help.

Closing down the the Long Beach NSY and sending "Herman the German" to the Panama Canal was really stupid.

President Clinton tried turning over the closed LBNSY over to the Chi-Com PLA-Navy (COSCO) but the Republicans stopped it.

So many military bases were closed down under BRAC when it came time to bring our army home from Europe, there was no place to billet them at home.

On 9/11/01 because 1/2 of the ANG fighter wings were deactivated under Clinton and March AFB, George AFB were deactivated under BRAC and Clinton's over downsizing of the military neither the Cal ANG or USAF were able to put a CAP (Combat Air Patrol) over Southern California.

19 Ca. ANG F-16's all based near Fresno to defend the air space over the entire state of California. :roflol:

Between both countries of Russia and China they have two old aircraft carriers and we have many yet our military is lacking? I call bullshit.

Boeing tried to kill off the plane, but now Airbus is going to sell thousands of a very good plane, probably more than Bombardier would have sold on its own.

Spending more or less will not make any difference in the performance of US schools

The damage done by liberal culture may be irreversable

And the Republican Congress that held the purse strings during this whole thing were powerless?

Jack Northrop was toying with flying wing designs in the 1930s.

This is the best CAS aircraft ever to fly, the Douglas A-1 Skyraider.

The best jet powered CAS aircraft to serve during the Vietnam War was the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk.

This was the A-6 Intruder replacement, the A-12 Avenger that Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney canceled.

Why didn’t you make sure to emphasize that Cheney is a Republican?

    Obama always was to honest.
The door was always open to a tax overhaul. That's the problem with the pubs. They can't agree amongst themselves.

    Cheney is a neoconservative warhawk.

    Some conservatives call neocons RINO's.

B35 first flew in 1946 and was canceled in 1949 due to it having problems spinning out of control and crashing.

B49 existed as a prototype only and it flew in 1947

B35 was not successful and it had a huge problem with the aircraft spinning out of control and nosediving.

Ho 229 was developed in the early 30s. And Northrop developed his design in the 30s.

Every military show that I've watched had the experts say that the natzis development the winged design first.

In fact, we took the natzi plans and implemented its jet design because the proper design had been so faulty.

The Ho229 was also highly classified, probably never actually flew, and the US didn’t know it existed until after the war.

I was in a bunker at LZ Baldy, probably about May '68, near Tam Ky, and suddenly it started raining shrapnel. The radio net started to buzz, what was that, what was that? A few minutes later the word went around that someone put Naval gunfire in the wrong grid square. Was that you?

When the jet prototype, the b49 flew.

As I stated. The propped design was faulty and it was canceled shortly after its maiden flight due to problems with crashing.

Using natzi plans as a reference, we built the jet design.

The jet prototype had just as many instability issues. It didn’t fly enough to crash.

Near the end of its testing, the B-49 got an autopilot that acted somewhat like a fly-by-wire system to reduce instability, but only at high altitudes, fixed speed, and in a straight line AKA MiG-bait.
