This certainly has nothing to do with corporate mergers and bribed politicians giving no-bid contracts so that there is only one monopoly with the ability to service aircraft carriers. Definitely nothing to do with that.

So, they actually danced to his music? Its weird, because I remember the shut-down debates like it was yesterday, and it was nothing like the way you remember it. Congress DID write the law, and Obama signed it.

See, when a Dem is in the WH spending and debt are huge issues, but then a Rep is in the WH, is a non-issue.

Politics as usual. Don't let them play you like this.

Fer crissake, there's nothing wrong with using a computer in designing aircraft. The Boeing 787 was designed that way.

You forget that under Clinton and BRAC most of the U.S. Navy Shipyards were deactivated and closed down.

Long Beach NSY the only NSY that actually made a profit, Mare Island NSY, Philadelphia NSY, Brooklyn NSY.

Holy barnacles and Davy Jones Locker !!!

Out of the U.S. Navy's 13 NSY there are only 4 left to maintain the fleet.

The Democrats called it the "Peace Dividend."

Yeah, my father was involved with that plane. He went on to become Chief of Advanced Design at Northrop in the early 1950s. After he retired, I taught him how to use CAD software and continually remarked that he wished he'd had CAD when he was designing aircraft.

You don't know much about Boeing aircraft do you ?

All Boeing commercial airliners are based upon two boeing fuselages.

Both were designed for the U.S. Air Force during the 1950's and 60's.

Even if it wasn't so, the war mongers and supporters of the military complex will say it is. Maybe if we didn't try to control the world and its resources, it wouldn't matter since Russia and China wouldn't have seen a need to build up their own armed forces.

Now we're upset over something which is our own making.

I hate to tell ya, but they pretty much solved the stability program on the B-49 even before they had computers. The government wanted the B-36--arguably not the best choice.

Did you grow up in the South Bay LangleyMan ?

Hawthorne Airport was about 4 miles from my home when I was growing up.

I was scheduling computer runs at Northrop when they were first building the fuselage for the Boeing 747.

You don't know much about CAD software, do you?

Just to be clear, how much higher taxes would you have supported paying to keep all of those open?

I grew up in Palos Verdes (Rolling Hills Estates after 1957). My father was Chief of Advanced Design at Northrop in the 1950s and I worked for them in the late 1960s.
    And that makes you knowledgeable?

Bullshit they did. And the B-49 was a competitor to the B-47, not the B-36.

Boeing and Lockheed were in competition for an Air Force aircraft that could transport two main battle tanks during the 1960's.

Lockheed won the contract with the C-5.

Boeing was stuck with this huge pane and what to do with it ???

Lets fill it up with seats and punch a punch of holes in the fuselage for windows.
    The Boeing 747 is born.

The Boeing 707 has somewhat a similar history.
Originally what became the 707 was the Air Force KC-135 to refuel SAC bombers in the air.

Douglas Aircraft competed for that same contract and lost and turned the airtanker into the DC-8.

No, the B-49 wass a jet powered of the piston-powered B-35, which has a design that predates WW2.

I did back during the 1990's and there was always something that was left out and never made it through plans check.

There was no reason to raise taxes, USN NSY made money.

The Clinton administration was told that the private sector shipyards could do the job that the U.S. Navy had been doing for 200 years.

    Ends up they couldn't.

My father worked on fixing the problem.
Evidence, please. Converting the flying wing to a jet cut its range and that was part of the rationale for the B-36.

My only military expertise are calling in naval gun support and close air support and killing commies.

And of course, the Republican controlled Congress who has 100% say over whether bases continue to be funded or not had zero control?
