A mayor is a leader of a city and seeing as how their city is the one most directly affected by the wall/the illegal immigrants crossing that portion of the border, it makes a great deal of sense to allow them some say in the construction of the wall.

And I would need to see the actual language before weighing on the constitutionality of the provision.

It galls me to have to agree with you about this, but I do, and I said so weeks ago. Trump lost, and in a number of ways, he lost when he had some staffer (who must have been some "back-East" idiot that had never been west of the Mississippi River) write the specs for Trump's Executive Order 13767. Link: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presiden...ecurity-immigration-enforcement-improvements/ . Even worse, he had already pronounced that "Mexico would pay for it (the 'Wall')".

He could still save the day, save the border, save American sovereignty, and save the country from any more of this "illegal alien" and "caravan" crap by declaring a national emergency and SEALING THE BORDER WITH MEXICO SHUT until the Mexicans clean up the mess they have allowed to fester and grow on THEIR side of the border. But, I doubt now that will happen.

At this point I recommend that Americans should probably get used to LOTS of 'new neighbors', and, learn to speak some variety of Spanish. It's a fairly easy language to learn for English-speakers. Most of us can probably go to an average Mexican news website and figure out most of what is written because English and Spanish are both rooted primarily in Latin. Might as well give it a try -- we've already lost the fight for real enforcement of American immigration laws, thanks to decades of pandering, disloyal, and illegal activities conducted, funded, and promoted by the liberal wing of the Democrat Party.

I wasn';t opposed to a wall on the basis of morality. I was opposed to it because it was a stupid idea.

Yes, a 1,550 mile-long, CONTIGUOUS wall, from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean was an incredibly stupid idea. Too bad that exactly THAT kind of wall was what is described in detail in Trump's Executive Order of January 2017.

Just chalk it up as Obama's #3 regime change failure.

Meaningless right wing gibberish is still meaningless right wing jibberish, and bad Photoshop cartoons don't improve it.

Donald Trump is getting less than he was offered two months ago, after putting nearly a million people out of work in an gambit to get to his $5.7 billion,

Trump is caving because he lost the GOP Senate, just as Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer tried to tell him on December 11th.

You can drag and drop all the quotes you want, but the deal that Trump will sign is for less than he was offered before he put the country through the ringer trying to get more.

I'm sure you will post more cartoons and empty vitriol.

The fact remains that the is the second large legislative defeat this President has suffered. The first was the attempt to repeal the ACA, which Trump also bungled.

This is the end of any legislative agenda in the Trump Administration.

McConnell finally had enough, and told Trump he was going to release his caucus, guaranteeing a veto proof majority for the budget bills.

Trump was offered more money on December 11th, put nearly a million people out of work in a disasterous gambit to get more money, and wound up being forced to agree to less.

    Those are the facts.

So much for the Art of the Deal.

America hating is firmly left, stop projecting. When is the last time you saw American flag burning at a righty event? When is the last time you heard about people on the right making the claim that our national anthem is racist? Please tell me who on the right is calling for villainizing the founding fathers because slavery was legal at the time? List a time that people on the right where calling for limiting free speech? Who on the right is calling for open borders (no borders, no country)?

Human trafficking, drug trafficking, and mass illegal immigration isn't occurring from Canada. If it were, we would be building a wall, and increasing border security with Canada (predominantly white country FYI). Border security is not a race issue, as much as the left is trying to make it into one (because everything is a race issue with them).

A wall is one of many tools that can be used to prevent all of the above. But you already know that.

I don't care he's not the leader of the country and in charge of our borders and national security, the country didn't elect him to such a position. It's absurd. It was put in there in order to stop the bill from being passed, a poison pill. The Democrats do not want to give up what they believe is a POLITICAL issue they can use against Trump.

Yet another manifestation of American "schadenfreude" political masturbation. No WONDER we can't ever have a reasoned, mature, intelligent discussion about anything with each other anymore....

I've asked some of these mental titans what degrees they achieved at college, but never got a reply from any of them. Now, I think I understand why.... Back in elementary school, remember the weird kid who used to pull boogers out of his nose and EAT them...?

Yes they did in their talks before the commission was established, they floated it out and Pelosi still said NO.

Watch both interviews in the link

Trump lowers demand for border wall funding

On the seventh day of the partial government shutdown, President Trump on Friday threatened to shut down the U.S.-Mexico border if Democrats refuse his monetary demands to build his long-promised wall. Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said he expected the shutdown to go on for a while, but revealed the president has come down from his initial demand of $5 billion to build the wall.

"We sat down with (Chuck) Schumer and gave him a number below five. I am not going to tell you what it is," Mulvaney said.

Trump isn't going to declare a national emergency.

McConnell can't hold his votes to keep the budget bill from being passed with a veto proof majority. They are certainly not going to stand still for him trying to exercise emergency powers.

One thing that Democrats and Republcians in Washington have in common is that neither one of them trust Trump at all.

The Courts will stay him too.

As for "closing the border until the Mexicans clean up the mess"...….

You'll hear from any manufacturing industry that sources any part of its work or buys from material suppliers in Mexico.

Fresh vegetables will disappear from your supermarket.

    Forget about avacados.

And Mexico will tire of being rope a doped by a moron whose only care is playing to a reactionary domestic base.

They'll made a deal with the Chinese and give them a bigger toehold in the Americas that they already have.

After all, the US is the nation of trade wars on walking away from deals.

China, on the other hand, is open for business and racing to fill the voids created by Trump's many retreats.

As for visions of the future.....

The rest of the world talks about stopping manmade global warming, renewable energy, AI, additive manufacturing, and the like.

Trump talks about steel mills and coal mines.

So, if the Trumpian vision is the one we retreat to, it may look more like this:

    pittsburg.jpg

Trump's vision, as stated many times in his rallies.

    Shanghai now.

    Thank you.

If the dimwit had intended anything in addition to the "wall", you'd think it'd be outlined in the EO. Hmm.

The WH NEVER came down from the 5.7 Billion demand. The Mulvaney line was directly contradicted in front of numerous witnesses by trump when he tried to find a middle ground and trump said that Mulvaney was "****ing it up."

In the Oval Office address that took place on January 8th, he said, "law enforcement professionals have requested $5.7 billion for a physical barrier."
