Not for a fishing expedition with no probably cause, according to the 4A. As I said before, that power granted to Congress was so they could oversee the IRS.

For sure, this is nothing but a political circus, to quote the AG.

Is this the same Cuomo who shut down a corruption and ethics investigation because it was hitting too close to home?

Has nothing to do with crimes.

In addition to the committee's right to obtain the tax information requested based on its Congressional oversight authority, Chairman Neal referenced the provision of the tax code that specifically authorizes the Committee to receive Trump tax returns: 26 USC Section 6103(f)(1).

Which is why I've heard Neal is very hesitant to get Trump's NY Tax returns via this NY bill.... He has every right to get his federal returns via the law you mention. Taking the NY taxes might mitigate following through on the current lawsuit.

Mnuchin should currently be in jail... no if's, and's or but's..... Today!! NOW!!

Of course they should as soon as the same applies to them. I would go further and require all meetings with lobbyists to be streamed live. For me, it appears to be nothing more than a political move.

They should charge some of these guys in civil court and throw them in jail until the cases clear thru the courts.

They do not, but is one's net worth a crime justifying this fishing expedition?

A tax return show's one years income which due to circumstances even for a billionaire could be zero.

That is VERY debatable, and probably a violation of the 4A as we've been discussing.

Given the level of corruption and bias shown in the Russia collusion witch hunt, why would he cooperate?

the President has no right to privacy from Congress's oversight - Congress has a right to make sure the President has no conflicts - that is why most just release their taxes and prevent all this hassle

Trump's IRS is protecting Trump - Congress has a right to this information - hand over the tax returns already, what is he hiding?

What bias and corruption? Didn’t trump get totally exonerated? Are you saying he’s actually guilty?

Yes, Trump's DOJ has show bias, so why would we expect any less from Trump in any other area

We'll find out when the two current investigation's findings are released. Are you not aware than a good number of bad actors involved have been fired or demoted?

In two SCOTUS decisions, McGrain v. Daugherty, a 1927 case arising out of one of Congress’ investigations into the Teapot Dome scandal, and Watkins v. United States, a 1957 case dealing with a union officials conviction for contempt of Congress, both established the proposition that any Congressional investigation into the private affairs of an individual must serve a “legitimate legislative purpose.” In his letter to Chairman Neal, Secretary Mnuchin argued that the Committee has failed to provide a legitimate legislative purpose for requesting the Presidents tax returns. TDS doesn't count.
