This is about the children who want to work their ass off, but don't have the means.

I already responded to this in post 66 with a source.
Your opinion is irrelevant. And your last source incorporates a lot more than just Asians. I dunno why you think you know it all better than the PEW research.

they want to work their ass off, but they don't have the "means" to work their ass off?

    um...ok

what do they need to have the means to work their ass off?

go to the library after school?

open a book and read it?

or maybe they need a social network that actually desires and respects academic achievement, and parents who push them to work hard.

Most Asians in NYC lived in poverty in Manhattan in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

just like their Hispanic and Black counterparts.

But the Asians developed social circles and networks that respected academic achievement, so they achieved.

Those who did well in school, were respected and honored.

While among the black and Hispanic community, those who worked hard to achieve were called "sell-out" and "trying to be white".

    its a disgrace. :(

I do care about your alleged personal experience, or that one fluke who made a success in his basement. This is about the masses / averages.

Money. More money, better housing, better food, parents that have the time to help out, parents that can pay for a tutor.

Chinatown/Lower East Side NYC is a great example of Asians living in poverty who excel academically and work to transcend their socio-economic handicaps.

unlike their black & Hispanic counterparts.

    Asians didnt get that.

    they excelled anyways.

    and you know exactly why.

its cause Asians celebrate and demand excellence.

HAHA... your source is still lobbing people together from Hawaii to people immigrated from China.
It also has nothing to do with NY.

Lots of poor Chinese live there and send their children to NYC public schools and are placed in the gifted program.

my best friend from second grade is chinese.

    grew up in subsidized housing.

dad worked long hours in atlantic city.

    mom worked at nursing homes.

my friend studied his ass off, parents did not help.

all they did do, is demand he do well!!!

he also wanted to get the **** out of the ghetto with all the crime and drugs and danger.

his parents didn't send him to any expensive study programs.

he's now 43 like me, and has worked at the DOD, CIA and now State Dept.

nothing extraordinary about him. just a regular guy.

    ..who refused to accept poverty.

anyone can do it, if they want it

I am of course a Liberal, and I want to help kids achieve, but I just wish Progressives would stop making excuses for people not achieving and failing.

no one is helped by this.

blaming racism, oppression, stereotypes, helps no one.

if folks want to help people, give them the tools they need.

    its that simple

their poverty rate in NY is almost twice as much as whites.

NYC's Chinatowns in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Flushing are some of the poorest parts of NYC
