Some people do not want to punish a child, and make it's outlook on life grim,... just because it's parents can not afford good care.

Nah. Teachers identify them then they get tested. There may he a few parents who game the system to boost their kid but mostly bnb its just really smart kids. I've been through the process as a parent.

"them same people"? Lordy, you people make my head hurt.

In typical leftie fashion, you go straight to abortion and welfare, but what about personal responsibility and pregnancy prevention? :omfg:

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, isn't that the saying? If you don't have the time or money to raise a child properly, don't have a child. Don't try to punish the more gifted children in some attempt to level the playing field between the gifted kids vs the less gifted.

Also, quit pretending that throwing money at lower income parents is going to make their kids innately smarter, because it doesn't work that way. You can "buy" education but you can't "buy" intelligence. These programs are seeking to nurture superior intelligence.

Well some studies have actually shown that it’s better to not separate.

Melser's (1999) research indicates that gifted students' reading achievement improves at about the same rate whether those students are in a heterogeneous or a homogeneous class; however, she found that gifted students in heterogeneous classes often had better self-esteem.

There are so many of these studies that it’s hard to just say a school is wrong one way or the other. It’s important that they do what’s best in their curriculum.

Seems some here are confusing book smarts with actual intelligence. It's not the same. Having higher intelligence is what leads to the ability to learn easier and at a high level of understanding. Thinking that the poor black children aren't getting into these schools because the parents aren't drilling them at age 4 is only an excuse. If they aren't intelligent, they won't learn at the same level as those who are and you can't force it no matter what you do. Merit based does no equal racism, except to lefties who won't accept reality.

yes, thats why the City and the State should spend whatever money it takes to make sure all kids get a good education, and nobody is left out due to lack of funds.

simply shutting down advanced programs is NOT the answer

Having a abortion is taking personal responsibility to not be pregnant.

Yeah well. Go try and explain that first the Arians and Jews made sure the black population was at the total bottom of the social economical ladder due legally arranging racial oppression. To than go, since your poor now, means you may not have any children... and have yourself a genocide.

Bravo. Lets hope you haven't thought this plan totally through.

I'm for leveling the playing children who did not get a good start in life due to the poor circumstances of their parents. Having a good start in life, doesn't mean your gifted.

How about a little bit of personal responsibility in the form of prevention, as in don't get pregnant in the first place. If you're not in a position to start a family, there are easy and affordable steps you can take to avoid becoming pregnant in the first place.

You're all over the place with this word salad. Did you have to spin until you were dizzy in order to bring racism and genocide into this discussion? :spin:

I have not argued anywhere that having a "good start in life" means "your [sic] gifted". In fact, if you were paying attention you'd see that most of us are saying the exact opposite. This has nothing to do with money; we're talking about the innate superior intelligence some kids are born with. We're talking about intelligence which can't be bought or learned.

    They did, and it flopped.
You can throw all the money in the world at it, but it won't correct the problem of communities with an anti-academic culture.

The program now is mostly about that young privileged children get good schooling, and underprivileged gets 2nd class, this gets played out at the age of 4 .... paid with TAXES!

the kids get into the programs by passing tests.

this can be equalized by giving poorer kids free test prep and a better education.

but Progressives don't want to help bring kids up, they simply want to tear others down

This has NOTHING to do with "privileged" vs "underprivileged". This is about innate INTELLIGENCE ---- which is determined via testing, not money.

Are you suffering from poor-kids-are-as-smart-as-white-kids Biden syndrome? Why do you assume only rich kids are gifted? Why do you assume poor kids are stupid?

This isn't about giving rich kids better schooling than poor kids, it's about giving gifted kids different schooling to nurture their innate intelligence.

So you want to hurt kids who are already are disadvantaged with taxes?
    Nice.

And the kids with money can already go to private schools.
    Dunno what the problem is.

Humans make mistakes. And abortion is just a way to prevent to have a family.

Oh I do think you're copping out. The idea of poor people should not have children, does mean that to get rid of the black population,... who was made poor because of the Arian and Jewish oppressive policies.

Everything has to do with money. More money means better food, better housing, more care.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_versus_nurture#Genetics
In ecology and behavioral genetics, researchers think nurture has an essential influence on nature.

It is for a reason that women shouldn't use drugs, alcohol or smoke during pregnancy.

More money does NOT mean better academic achievement though.

Kansas City spent 2 billion dollars figuring that out the hard way.

I already sourced that this happens at age 4. Giving "better" education and "test prep" to a 3 year old.
    How realistic... lol

As California goes, the rest of the country goes.

As LAUSD goes (one of the worse performing school districts in America,) New York public schools goes.

the history of Chinese kids in NYC proves that money has nothing to do with academic achievement.

their parents and friends are poor, but their social circle and family demands academic excellence.

so they work their asses off and transcend the "poverty= ignorance=failure" meme of Progressives.

I have no doubt the same would have happened with Indian, Pakistani, Arab, even African immigrants.
