in NYC, Asians poverty rate is almost twice as high as Whites. but they still achieve, cause their culture and social network demands it. they don't feel sorry for themselves, blame discrimination for their troubles. They simply kick themselves in the ass and work!!!!! https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/opportunity/pdf/NYCgovPovMeas2017-WEB.pdf
And I sourced.... ALL the income. And it shows the Asians are on average rich. While you ignore everybody who aint poor.
thats funny cause according to NYC.gov, they have almost twice the poverty rate of white NYers. Almost 25% its funny how you, who dont live in NY think you can tell me, someone who lives in Queens, that Asians on average in this city are "rich". LOLOLOL!!!! too funny.
yes, Asians in NYC. according to NYC.gov, they have almost a 25% poverty rate. rich????? LOL!!!! too funny. come hang out in the Asian epicenters in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Flushing. tell us all about the incredible "wealth" you see. LOL!!!
I already sourced how it is for all the Asians in all of NYC. https://statisticalatlas.com/place/...Income#figure/median-household-income-by-race They aint poor. Your source combines a bunch of ethnicity. Mine doesn't
Is there predominantly black country in the entire world that has progressed economically and academically on it's own? Could that be why black students tend to perform poorer than others?
Are you saying that truly talented black or Latino kids are not accepted????I do not believe that is the case.
I read a commentary today by someone who lives there that private school is not really an option for those well off, but not rich as it is hideously expensive and private schools are crowded also. People will instead move to suburbs and commute or they will leave the state.
. I taught in inner city Brooklyn and give workshops with teens and the problem is a lack of hope as long as people judge them as you are..granted there was a”thug” mentality, but kids want to get out of the “hood”
That’s very surprising that in the second grade the teachers saw a gifted child because they usually wait until the third grade when it evens out. Some kids have advantages and some kids have disadvantages but usually around the third of fourth grade you can see the potential. I thought middle schools and saw some kids I thought were brilliant but they could hardly read. The problem was they didn’t have glasses and couldn’t see and no one was aware of it. I just got a funny Facebook friend who was the student I had more than 25 years ago. He said to me, “I want to apologize for being such a jerk. You were nice enough to buy me eyeglasses and I complained about the frames“ he was 14 and now he is over 40
Wait a minute. That almost sounds like...a successful public school system. So, why do we need charter schools again?
I've noticed, after 20 years teaching, we are producing an extraordinary amount of stressed out unhappy kids. The last thing this country's kids need is more schoolwork. The dog-eat-dog mentality that permeates this country (and is esp. pernicious in gifted classes) is a slow form of soul-murder. Ours is a profoundly messed up and unhappy society and our education system is a big reason.
Yes ---- one example of a successful program ---- and of course they're trying to eliminate it instead of rewarding or replicating it. Go figure. Oh please. If a kid can't cut it in school, how are they ever going to cut it in real life. I was one of those gifted kids. If the "dog-eat-dog mentality" and "soul-murder" of my schooling made me a little more motivated and personally responsible then I'm glad. There was no "everybody gets a trophy" when I was a teenager in the 90's. Kids today are soft and undisciplined and unprepared for the real world because we've allowed them to become like that. Real life isn't "everybody gets a trophy".
The average person in this country is dumb as ****. That's no reason to punish those who excel. Thats like arguing the average kid isnt very good at football, so let's not have the team. The average adult cant run a marathon, so lets not have them. After all, it's not fair I am not able to run 26 miles. If my parents were wealthy and had more time to sit around and train me... By the way, I also cannot speak Spanish. Since the average person cant either, we need to outlaw the language in this country. Are you good at calculus? I'm not. It's not fair that people who are good at calculus tend to get paid more than those who arent.
The suicide rate is the highest it's been in decades. We're in the midst of a worst-ever drug epidemic. People were forced to choose between a corporate warmongering shill and an incompetent narcissist. Do you think that what we're doing is working? Of course you don't, we're all miserable and at each other's throats. Education doesn't get a pass. It's part of the problem.
In our example we got lucky. Her teacher taught gifted classes at her previous school so she had an eye for it. But there was no prep or anything special that we did as parents. It helped that my kid was sharp and a hard worker. The test, as described to me was more of an IQ test than anything else. More importantly, she chose the right peers through school, so they challenged each other to do better, didnt bring each other down, that was critical IMO.
You're reading the statistics incorrectly. It's not 25% of Asian; it's 25% of individuals who fall under the poverty level. Asians are on average on the higher end of the income distribution... It doesn't necessarily mean that they are all rich, it means that they're more likely to be wealthy than other ethnic groups. I also live in New York. I'm also of Chinese descent.
“Gifted” students doesn’t fit with the communist view of the world. It reeks of merit-based capitalism.
Speak for yourself. I'm not miserable. I'm actually quite happy. Things are going really well for me. Things are working great. If you're dumb enough to do drugs, and be assmad 24/7 at the Orange Man, then you deserve to be miserable. Your misery brings me joy too. If "FlamingLib" is suffering, then that's a great indication that good things are happening.
Hey Progressives/Socialists, how about instead of hurting those kids in the gifted programs, we instead HELP more kids be able to get a decent education???????????? why must you always tear others down rather than bring others up???
