The once FREE internet is now filled with sites with popups demanding payment to access content. There are no longer free dating sites despite what some may advertise, everything is either a commercial site selling merchandise or an information or entertainment site asking for payment. The internet as it was a few years ago is gone forever it is now just a giant Sears catalog.

    Capitalism destroying the Internet.
Capitalism does not hinder anybody that wants to put up and run ad-free free sites. How can it destroy the internet?

It’s going to get worse. Wait till they start charging for specific sites to load at the speeds you are paying for and throttling sites that you don’t. Taxpayers paid to invent the internet, we paid or severely subsidized for the network to be laid into place, and now this is happening.
Regional and local monopolies exist in just about every major area.

I am just glad we are about to have the option of broadband satellite services, this is the only thing that will keep them competitive until they find a way to legislate them out of existence.

Your Good Thing's About to Come to an End

    Tell you what.

Start a free online dating site that becomes wildly popular and you keep it free as an example of how it should be done.

Nothing worth having/using is "free." And the very opposite of "capitalism" is what makes much of what is on the net ideologically biased today.

Have you started, invest the cost and the time to build these free websites you desire?

No, you just expect other people to do it, and let you have access for free.

You do realize that the internet isn't some magical place up in the sky right? Whenever you navigate to a website, you are navigating to somebody's private computer. A computer they bought... what gives you the right to demand that for free?

Destroying? Only if you think capitalism is bad.

And there are plenty of free sites out there. What are you on now? Are you required to pay to post here at PF? No? How about Wiki? YouTube? Facebook? Twitter? And if you want a free dating site then go out and socialize in the real world.

It is certainly not the bastion of free access it was just a few years ago and this site constantly has it's hand out for contributions.

Someone's lonely. Explains the high post count.

In all seriousness, 25 years ago you had to pay for your internet by the hour, it was slow, and content was limited.

the World Wide Web was only discovered 29 years ago so yes 25 years ago there was not much to attract people to it but somewhere after that it began to gain fans and content and world wide acceptance.Maybe the fact that most things on it now either have a price tag or a request for donations is just indicative of the world we live in today.Everythings for sale.

lrn2code and create a free dating app.

Which, btw, they do exist. Here's one. As quoted by one of its users "this site is a bigger waste of potential than I am."

    http://www.projectevolove.com/

No one uses them because, generally speaking, you get what you pay for.

To falcon a website is just something he finds on his computer. It doesn't occur to him that somewhere there's a computer using electricity and bandwidth to host that website, and that computer needs maintenance to ensure it connect to the hundreds of thousands of other computers with which it communicates, and that those things cost money.

When you're lonely and living on a fixed income retirement, you need free dating sites.:roflol:

Or perhaps capitalism has helped the internet by improving content. I do my shopping on the internet with all those nasty capitalists but I can't remember paying for information on the internet. I think there is all kinds of free information on the internet. I assume you know how much free information is worth.

    www.infowars.com

they're entirely self-funded by the products they sell, and charge nothing to access their news reports or various talk shows
