The Bible says God wiped out almost every human on Earth by drowning them. Plus, I didn't see anything about Noah praying for or helping the swimmers. Maybe the correct religious response is to stand back and watch God cull the herd.
Yes . . . because it never occurred to the Jews -- during the times when they were enslaved by other nations during various times in their history -- to pray to God to instantly give them their freedom . . . after all traditionally God is a candy machine dispenser, yes? I mean everyone KNOWS that you stuff a prayer into the slot and pull the lever and then -- Ka-ching! -- instantly receive a miracle in return; and it always works that way and it never fails. Yep . . . indeed.
That's sort of a gray area actually. It has been argued that since the existence of God can neither be proved nor disproved by science the BELIEF that God does not exist is in itself a matter of faith . . . and therefore a form of religion.
Actually it has been proved that both do work about fifty percent of the time . . . or in other words the efficacy of a placebo depends on the patient's BELIEF in its efficacy . . . or at least does so roughly fifty percent of the time in regards to most treatable illnesses.
So, who needs doctors, hospitals, and medicines when prayers and magic oil will do the trick about 50 percent of the time? Wouldn't a smart person try prayers and magic oil first?
As an atheist I'm just going to have to disagree with that. Beliefs and religion require specific actions. It's not religion if one simply ignores something. If I don't base any of my decisions on the possibility of a God, that just can't be considered religion. There are different definitions for "belief" - they don't all involve imutable views regarding a specific supernatural. It can be a synonym of "opinion" or "think". And, I hink we use "atheist" too much, as my bet is that most atheists could be better described as agnostic.
Yes religion is the action of following whatever your belief is. Ignoring something is a choice is a conscious choice, hence in whole or in part a religion. No, you base your decisions on your belief in the probability God does not exist, a conscious choice, and you conduct yourself accordingly, bullseye, its a religion. All resulting in a conscious choice. On this note I agree, or at least nontheist.
The Bible doesn't specify any limitations. Besides, in Mark 16:18 it says that believers will lay hands on the sick and they will recover. It seems that there are no believers to be found anywhere.
That or it was never meant to be a permanent trait. Mysterious is supposed to be the way of God. Don't ask me as I am merely a consistent Church attending atheist. Or in other words, for my own reasons I am a practicing non-believer from praying to tithing.
Believers have attributed certain powers to their favorite deities but none of their deities has ever done anything that their believers have said that they can do. The Jesus character said that people who believe in him can do all sorts of specific things. Not one person in 2,000 years has been able to do any of those things. Therefore, the Jesus character is imaginary, or he was a liar, or no one has ever believed in him. Consequently, for all practical purposes, he doesn't exist.
that may or may not be true, my approach is philosophical, how the propositions are set up and the resultant quotients.
If what you are saying is true about yourself, according to the Bible you are wasting your time and money so you might as well take up a new hobby. If the story is true you would be classified as a non-believer and tossed into the lake of fire. If the story is false you are completely wasting your time and money.
I don't even SLIGHTLY accept that. Religion requires explicit action. I take NO explicit action based on other people thinking there is a god. That lack of action is a clear indication of the lack of religion. You can't have religion with zero action. Besides, the fact that YOU have a religion doesn't make me religious simply because I don't happen to agree with you on that.
Or that He doesn't answer all prayers by doing what we want. Which of course we all already know... But I do support your idea of mass prayer. Certainly couldn't hurt.
Atheists just deny their faith is is faith. A most dishonest crew Truth is there is no way for man to know if god exists . You form an opinion and then believe ini your opinion . Even having faith your opinion is true. .Then you deny the faith. Lol .Yes a most dishonest lot.
Why is it necessary to believe in an ancient ethnocentric Middle Eastern Jewish religious fairy tale to live a decent life? And if you don't BELIEVE IN ALL OF IT WITHOUT EXCEPTION you could cherry-pick items from the thousands of other religious and secular fairy tales from around the world and incorporate them into a personal creed that will be far more satisfying and enriching.
Do you believe that the god Babalu Aye exists? If not, why not? https://cfbrown.tumblr.com/post/45733606755/spirit-of-healing-one-of-the-orishas-he-will-do
An opinion is NOT a religion. I accept that YOU have a religion. But, that doesn't mean that I do simply on the grounds that YOU do. And, that is ALL you have as an argument. Besides, religion requires action - worship, ritual, consideration in decision making, of value justifying sacrifice, etc. And, your ad hom is NOT appreciated.
According to God's will. It is still up to God who gets healed or how. For Instance a friend asked me and a couple of coffee house ministry elders to pray for her father who had cancer. we did and led him in the sinners prayer. He changed to the point he apologized to his daughter and wife for the way he had been so bitter since he had gotten cancer. His countenance and attitude completely changed. He died 3 months later in peace and with a smile on his face. The daughter that asked us to pray thanked us for the prayer and was pleased how God had changed he Father and how God gave him peace about dying
