Why are the COVID-19 spikes in Florida and Texas getting attention but not California?

I would "like" this post except for the notion that both of you are correct. You on the overview and him on the local (okay, our national) experience under that same virus. Nobody disputes your last sentence. Nobody.

 

In America, the various media outlets receive certain tax breaks for running either print, radio or TV ads for the Ad Council and other reputable, recognized impartial causes. When ad revenue from the smaller advertisers shrinks (the non-chain-store ads) the fast way to recoup that loss is to run these and snag the tax credit.

It would not surprise me if the big-box outfits like Walmart and etc. also get tax credits for tie-ins reminding shoppers to mask up and obey the overlords who don't follow their own dictates.

 

But states ARE independent. Until they go too far presumably.

 

Then the courts get into it and then the incompetence goes uphill, defying known gravity, until the Supreme Court makes a serious blunder. The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is presently the single most overturned appellate court, representing California and a few other states (some of which may even be innocent!). That court needs an Ajax and steel brushes treatment. Scrub a freakin' dub.

 

Okay, so Trump didn't reject such a recommendation of a Europe travel ban. Glad you acknowledge that.

ALL flights? You don't know what the hell you're talking about. People still traveled from China after the ban, such as US citizens and other exempt people.

What are you suggesting? That US citizens shouldn't be allowed to enter their country? I think that there's some minor document which forbids that. I think that it begins with a 'C' and ends in an 'N', but I can't quite think of it!

They were reporting on what was happening, and this had the effect of making New York look bad, but making NY look bad wasn't their motive for reporting on it.

 

At the presidential level, words matter. He wasn't kidding when he said "slow the testing down". He wasn't kidding when he said "Russia if you are listening"

A travel ban is typically a temporary measure to give you time to get ready to use standard protocol. Problem is, his ban didn't ban, and he didn't get ready in a timely fashion.

Trump ignored the CDC and brought 14 sick people here without quarantine procedures. That's where the disease started in the Pac NW.

If Trump hadn't dumped on the science, the CDC would have had the authority to stop that in it's tracks.
