that just might be the core of the problem. and that is why nothing can now change. Making this a "right" so long ago when life was different..............might not have been the smartest move. Once it became a "right" and interpreted as folks wanted in order to justify gun ownership............it became almost sacrosanct. Yet the cultures that has evolved is more violent all the time.. The genie is out of the bottle. and folks are quite prepared to accept the loss of life that gun culture entails.
This has devolved into a psychological l dependency on weapons........and is now embedded into the American image..and mindset.

It has gone way beyond "rights" ............ and merged into a life style.

Crime can be greatly decreased with better and higher education, secure employment and decent salaries. the other contributing factors to decreasing crime is better health and psychiatric care for everyone.......not just those who can afford it. It is unrealistic to expect all crime to disappear. There is always those that don't respond to mental healthcare...........or slip though the cracks. or are very sociopathic.

Glad Great Britain took the lead from us and did take that authority away and make the monarchy a mere symbol and the House of Commons become the primary governing body. The French as they normally do waited until 1778 it was a sure thing and that the Americans were not going to give up and would become a power house so better to be on their side. They finally helped at Yorktown blocking the sea, the Continental Army had no navy to speak of, while the Americans pounded the Brits into submission out foxing their premier commander in the field Cornwallis. The strongest military force in the world beaten by a bunch of ragtag colonist seeking their freedom and liberty.
