Before the first shots at the courthouse were fired, the white lynch mob (by the way, threatening violence is "starting the violence" by any reasonable measure) had already tried robbing the National Guard arsenal. The first shot was fired by accident when a white guy tried robbing a black guy of his 2A rights. The victim of said shooting was black.

She was ****ing 7 years old. She was 6 when the white guy was lynched. She was asleep in her bed when the murdering began.

Learning history, real history is always good. It helps young people understand why people who grew up in the 30s considered post WWII US the greatest country on the planet. That being said, real history is not always what is taught in school.

 

And that's part of why learning the history of this is important, given the concerted effort to hide it. A lot of people, including myself, hadn't really heard much about it until it featured in an HBO show.

Because a lynch mob (which was also armed) was gathering around the courthouse. Not sure where you get your hatred for the 2A from, but there is nothing illegal about exercising one's Constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms in order to protect oneself and others. There is no melanin exception. One side was showing up to commit murder. The other side was showing in armed resistance to attempted murder. Why do you keep siding with those attempting murder over those wishing to prevent it?
