Poverty can prevent a lot in the US. When born poor, it's just one massive uphill battle compared to the rich. Indeed it can be done. But a lot more people who are poor would succeed if they had money from the start.

 

Oh sure you can name a handful of people who are the exception. It still is that massive amounts of people are unable to escape the poverty they were born in. A poverty they were born in, because their family got persecuted into it by white people.

Sorry but very few black people today are persecuted into poverty by white people. Generational poverty is dictated by ones choices and actions and of course the leadership they vote for. If slaves had been another ethnicity of European for example, people would have gotten over it already. You wouldn't be able to tell who had a past of slavery or not. The discussion would be gravitating around socio-economic issues, which is where the emphasis should of always been. Instead because there's a visual difference, people are still stuck in the past, still stuck on the skin colour element instead of being interested in the economic element. That's the real modern day legacy of slavery, that blacks, on average, are starting from lower on the socio-economic ladder. And the solution should be economic, not racial, in that in helps everyone in the lower socio-economic strata of society regardless of their race.

She got very upset ( as I would) and went on for a while until we all started laughing so hard we could not walk.
