Shamefully late, but still 60 years ago. It only takes one day to start taking advantage of opportunities.

Yes, there is. All of us have the same access to public education, public health care, public libraries, and the choice to use them.

If you start with $0, whether you end up rich or poor is not dependent upon intellect.

Wait...didn't the left defend people coming here from shithole countries because they just want to improve their lives in America? How is it an illegal can come here, find a job and quite often do well when he's not even a citizen, yet some American citizens just can't do it?

You open borders people should really take a hard look at what will happen to certain Americans if people who actually want to work, at least according to you guys, come here.

    Sure ... sure.

Just like all those doctors and lawyers who are the first generation of offspring of (incredibly persecuted - almost to death) refugees from the Indo-Chinese wars. Those refugees who arrived in America and elsewhere with no English, no money, no education, and a lifetime of horrors behind them.

When you're rich and average than all doors still open for you, while the doors remain closed for the poor.
That is basically it. And it has nothing to do with them not being to handle money.

If you went to school in the 1960's, than your education was far from "separated but equal".
It closed the doors for them all over the place. And their children inherit their social economic position.
And because it is like that, it does mean that 60 years is nothing.

Over a 100.000's Asians go to the US, with money to get a high education, and not to wash dishes... every year. They buy their way into the top universities.

First of all, it's thEn, not thAn (my bold).

Secondly, what on earth do you mean by 'rich and average'? Your posts are quite inexplicable!

And finally ... how do you think people become rich or poor? Do you think that magical fairies cause wealth, and evil goblins cause poverty? Poverty, in the wealthy western world, is most definitely a result of poor choices, and wealth-from-nothing is a result of different choices.

Chelsea Clinton is a perfect example of what you've posted.

WRONG (my bold). Look again at the example of Indo-Chinese refugees who came to the west in the 1970s. They came from dirt poor, uneducated poverty, and immediately started working towards far better for their children - as soon as they got off the boat. They were subject to racism, they couldn't speak the language, they were uneducated, they had nothing ... yet their children ended up college educated professionals.

NO ONE is compelled to continue with the bad choices or bad circumstances of their parents ... in our opportunity-rich west.

ALL education is only as good as the parents (who must support that education at home, for the duration of school years .. unrelentingly). Furthermore, in many countries - including my own - public education is a higher standard than private.

I'm talking about the Vietnamese and Cambodians who fled their war torn nations in the 1970s. Keep up.

And no, the Chinese don't 'buy' their way into top universities ... they work their arses off to get the marks. Even then, they're discriminated against just because they're Asian, and must work harder than white people. They still manage to beat whites, though. Again, HARD WORK, nothing else. The kid whose parents own the tiny convenience store will do just as well (academically) as the child of millionaires. It's a result of a cultural work ethic and a high regard for education. It has nothing to do with wealth.

You inherit poverty but you choose to stay. You also can inherit lazyness, bad values and a victim complex which keeps you in poverty. You can also inherit a good work ethic which gets you out. White people dont force black people to do anything anymore. Those days are long gone.

And from another later post, plenty of public education is fine to excellent and most people aren’t privately educated k-12 anyway. Going to private schools is the extreme minority. It’s very expensive. It’s basically the 5% maybe willing to spend college level prices for high school and earlier education.

And it still doesn’t guarantee you a thing.

Uh, no, Trump got his Bach. of Science in Economics at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Nothing is recorded of his ever having gone to school in a country which had an apartheid system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump. Just out of curiosity, where did you come up with a goofy idea like that...?! :psychoitc:

not sure what you mean, if the problem is the local community, move.... both blacks and whites face this problem, it's not a black only problem

I was born poor, family on welfare most of my childhood, did not go to college as could could not afford it - I support welfare programs... regardless of race

I think public colleges would be a great idea for all races

if people want change they have to vote, black and white people need to vote

I'm actually in a thread where liberals are literally saying public schools pretty much suck and immigrants are essentially worthless. Kinda takes away from all the praise the left heaps upon teachers and the claim that dreamers and the like are our future doctors and lawyers.

Trump enjoyed college cause his parents were filthy rich, Trump was German, he came here after slavery - and Trump doesn't represent the majority of Americans, Trump is the exception to the rule

public education is good, better then the alternative... yes rich kid private schools are better cause they have better funding, if the public schools had the same funding they would be just as good, but that is not reality and never will be

public schools do just fine, even with the right constantly trying to defund and destroy them

Bullshit! Trump earned a Bach. of Science degree, and, I earned a Bach. of Science degree. He had wealthy parents, and I grew up poor. Each of us, Donald and myself, had to make our grades and graduate, or do poorly and flunk-out. The wealth, per se, of our parents had nothing to do with it. I've known a number of people who had their parents pay their way paid through college, including all the expenses, who just didn't have the mental 'horsepower' or stamina to graduate. Too bad, so sad... Mommy and Daddy's money can't BUY a college degree!
