16 is the suitable Age of Consent for the US (Read)

The best thing to do is to talk to your daughter and explain why that relationship is bad idea.

 

From what I'm aware of, in the State of Ohio the age of legal consent is 16 within 2 years.

So an 18 year old and a 16 year old could legally have sex.

A 16 year old and 19 and above? no.

I would want legal recourse to protect my daughter's 16 year old (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) from men 21 and up for sure. No 21 year old has any business having a girlfriend younger than 18. None.

 

I few year ago when I was 35 working out of town for a year and a half, I happen to work with a very attractive 19 year old that tested my will power to the extreme. She was just too child like emotionally even though she was full grown and very legal. While I still kick myself to this day for refusing her advances it was the moral decision to make.


So on the age of consent being 16, would that include when they could quit school or leave home as well?

Regardless of whether it is out of personal morality or not. I'm the parent and if I have enough parents who agree with me, then we have legal rights to have laws passed whether you agree with our moral position or not.

If enough people share a certain moral value, democracy means we can impose those values upon you and punish you legally if you refuse to follow them.

Yeah, its the same here in Jersey and I don't approve of it either.

 

A 16 year old girl or boy in this day and age especially---is not mature enough to consent to sex with a 20 something. Or 30 something. And I have trouble understanding why some people want laws to encourage that type of relationship.

Yes, I would but even though 16 is sexually mature it is not emotionally mature. My daughter is only 3 so thankfully I have over a decade before she reaches that age. Even then it would be hard to accept her having sex at 16 even with someone her own age. Someone much older, at the best I would go "captain caveman" on him at worse death by paper cut with lots of salt and rubbing alcohol involved.

 

You are incorrect on all counts. The law is not in place---everywhere. It is state by state. And such a law should be dealt with on a state by state basis.

And juveniles are very rarely considered an adult. Only when the crime is extremely heinious.

Its not even close to the same thing. For the most part, 16 year olds ARE NOT held accountable like adults are.

 

My wife was pregnant with my daughter at the time, the other girl was also married with a small child. So it was more than just the age that prevented it. I do believe that was the deciding factor. I would have felt like I was taking advantage of her. As I said I still regret it but believe I made the correct decision.

The age of consent in both Texas and Arkansas is 17(I believe) which to me is acceptable since that is how it has been since I was a child. If they are protected from adults one year is not that big of a deal I suppose. However I still not sure why it would be worth changing the law. I have known people that would start smoking at 18 because it was legal and made them feel more adult like. Same with 21 and alcohol. I never waited till I was legal for any of them personally.

 

Like I said in the OP consent is about the mental capacity to make an intelligent decision. If they have been well informed about sex and its consequences(via sex ed) then they can indeed be intelligent enough to know they are doing like any older person based on the sources I cited from the American Psychological Association.

Just tell him to back off. The law will have your back if he doesn't since she is under your control and if you brought her up right she will respect your wishes.

True, but only 8 states in the US and 40 countries outlaw sexual relationships between 16 year olds and 20 somethings. Even in states where the Age of Consent is supposedly 18 Florida allows 16 years to have sex with people up to 23 years old, Delaware has it up to 29, and Utah has it up to 25.

 

I have a 17 year old son and always felt the same way as you. Then after I thought I was done surprise. I suppose it is sexist to a certain extent but also remembering how we were and what we wanted the girls for when we were young. I caught lots of heat from friends and family when I found out it was going to be a girl I said I hope she was a lesbian. I actually just want her to be happy and healthy, but I think I have a better chance of surviving her teens and early 20's if she was.

 

In that case I would have made the same decision as you did.

 

Lesbian are really male brains in a female body. Studies say their brains are shaped like a guy's, I'm not even joking. So those lesbians lusting after your daughter would be like a guy lusting after her. You better hope she's asexual.

 

LOL, we can always dream, yes I would rather celibacy be her choice. As I said I really just want her to be happy and healthy. I am protective of my babies and I still consider my 17 year old son my baby.( he is not fond of being called that) My little girl just scares the hades out of me. I will be 59 when she is 23 doesn't help those fears. I was pretty wild when I was younger so doubtful I will be in good shape by then.

 

So keep her constantly occupied with lots of activities and don't allow her to attend parties, sleep overs etc unless they are held under your direct supervision. In today's decadent world, I'm of the opinion that only an authoritarian tiger parent is capable of doing it succesfully.
