I have thought for several years now that the right-wing extremists that highjacked the repub party are a danger to our country and the rest of the world, both politically and environmentally.

I no longer even bother to argue with climate change deniers. Their grasp of science is so profoundly ignorant and their position is based on such arrogant selfishness that it's pointless, especially since the rest of the world already accepts the need for action on climate change, so essentially their rants have become irrelevant.

Their jingoism and bigotry toward others is appalling and hurts our reputation around the world and helps to justify our opponents' attitudes toward us.

Their intransigence and intolerance at home is based on essentially seditious and unpatriotic or bigoted attitudes. They prattle on about secession, violence and insurrection as "patriotic" responses to losing an election, never grasping how petty and immature they are. They lack any sense of loyalty to the US since they violently loathe well over half of their fellow citizens.

I'm to the point that I would support concrete measures to slap these people back down to their place.
They're a hateful, hysterical, ignorant rump of reactionaries that should not be allowed to hurt our country or dictate the conditions in which we operate.
From gun regulation to the debt ceiling, I say ignore them and push on.
They can either accept the national consensus or move to Russia or wherever is repressive enough to satisfy their martinet tendencies.

 

The discussion has become radicalized because government has no reverse gear.

Government will not cut federal spending, so every dime of new spending must be resisted furiously.

Government rarely ever repeals gun laws so every new one deserve nothing but opposition.

This part won't be true.
But before the repubs win potus again, they will need to shed the extremists because America is a moderate country at heart.
When I was a kid, the sort of people who are in charge of the repub party today were ridiculed as a small, crazy minority of John Birch and kkk types in Mad magazine. They were part of a national joke.
In national politics and among the public and media, they were regarded as a minority of extremists and generally marginalized.
We need to get back to that sort of perception of extremists among us.

Totalitarian societies work on the premise that anything that is not expressly allowed is forbidden, while open societies work on the premise that anything not expressly prohibited is allowed.
We do this to always give the human spirit a chance, then we have to create laws and regulations to fix the inevitable mess that follows freedom.
Individuals must evolve for the world to evolve.
It's not rocket science.

 

People cant evolve if they are dead either. Thats why all of us need to remain vigilent that under no circumstances do we ever let a tyrannical govt become empowered. Despite what people think, things like the holocaust really did happen and can happen again if it is allowed to take root.
