Not if guns are properly controlled. People aren't in greater danger in the UK, for instance, for lack of guns, because criminals generally lack them as well.

Factually incorrect. A firearm does not simply discharge by accident. A firearm discharges due to negligence on the part of the operator. It is no different than applying the accelerator by mistake instead of applying the brake in a motor vehicle.

So why is it Americans own twice as many guns as in the '90s, yet the murder rate is half as much? Citizens with concealed carry permits actually misuse guns at a rate less than the police do.
