They stood for freedom from a tyrant federal government. They didn't want to destroy their own country either. They wanted to be left alone and the war was started when the Union wouldn't pull off of Confederate land.
Yep, they were gonna teach us a lesson about what happens when you run a candidate they don't like. Now they're gonna teach us the same lesson in 2020, just you wait and see.
These are all local decisions. The democratically elected officials of those cities are making the choices. In Florida, the Daughters of the Confederacy paid to have a statue moved to a cemetery - Appropriate!
Oh, yeah, for sure these were predictable. I was speaking generally. Again though, it's up to those in the area to decide.
There was a photo in the paper this week of a confederate statute in the town 30 miles up the road. I have probably walked past that think 200 times and never even noticed it. Its pedestal is pretty tall saw I guess I must have assumed it was just some block of concrete for some reason. It is front of what used to be a church so that makes it even weirder.
This is America. There are laws against every conceivable act known to man. "What’s the future for NC’s Confederate statues? BY LYNN BONNER AUGUST 14, 2017 7:17 PM While cities around the South are talking about removing Confederate monuments in light of the violent white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., statues in North Carolina are protected by a 2015 state law. Former Republican Gov. Pat McCrory signed the law that prevents removing, relocating, or altering monuments, memorials, plaques and other markers that are on public property without permission from the N.C. Historical Commission. The law protects statues from removal by officials, but protesters pulled down a Confederate statue at the old Durham County courthouse Monday." These people are digging up old graves, burning statues of American heroes, submitting bills for elderly transgenders in rest homes, and more. It's time to wonder if you're on the right side.
Yet another one bites the dust!! So much winning!!! Montana to remove Confederate fountain following Charlottesville http://www.theblaze.com/podcasts/montana-to-remove-confederate-fountain-following-charlottesville/ "Montana officials have directed the removal of a Confederate fountain in Helena following the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville last weekend. Native American lawmakers petitioned the city council of Helena to remove the fountain, which was commissioned by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. While Helena Mayor Jim Smith formerly opposed removing the fountain, which was dedicated in 1916, he said his change of heart came after recent events. “I believe the time has come for the removal of the fountain,” he told the Independent Record."
"Reversed" implies there are two of something. In this case, there aren't two - we are a plural society with all sorts of variation, coming from all over the globe. We even have those who were here originally! What is wanted is to be treated as equals as per our constitution.
That's more than they take in the Trump Approval polls. In fact, this same poll has Trump in the 30's. In my opinion, since I don't believe in polls whether they reflect favor on my agenda or not, I think both numbers are higher than they appear to show. The more cities are forced to remove these statues, the more support these statues will get.
And so when they poll 1000 and say only 35% approve of Trump you discount those polls with equal vigor?
The statues are falling like dead dry leaves on a tree in a hurricane. It may be a while before they are all gone but they will fall.
We can call the DEm/ReP establishment the DE/RP establishment. What's missing? ME. Lol, how corny am I...
After a very long battle, it was removed legally in Shreveport as well, however, the statue was on private property that was located right in the center of the courtyard. This wasn't such a spectacle then like it is now so being on private property, there might be some big time lawyers come in and be able to stop the removal.
Tolerance for these statues, banners, etc. will wane if white nationalists and their pals continue to make them stand for racial hatred in America today
They don't need permits, they're above the law because the media won't call them out. And if you oppose them, you're a flaming racist.
The blowback is only starting. They are being labeled...I've been called...a white nationalist. It's another bag full of deplorables mistake. Certainly all those going to protest weren't white supremacists. It will offend normal people to be included with those offensive labels.
No, they wouldn't. I don't kowtow to bullies. I would be just as hated as Trump for not letting them get under my skin.
That's what I've been telling you people about the 350 people polled in these Trump approval polls but for some reason, you always believe those polls. Funny... Anyways, the numbers, like in the Trump polls, would most likely be higher if the nation was polled.
