On the plus side, the United States of America will re-establish its sovereignty. We will once again send the message that there is no right for ANYONE to come to the US that do not meet the qualifications and needs as established by the people of the United States of America. WE get to choose who comes here, not them. And we may indeed choose to accept zero as a minimum number of immigrants.

That and we will reduce the risk that the radicals among Muslim populations will not be coming here to kill us.

    Soooo, overall. Net plus.

    1st amendment > "We'll show them we're tough."

. . . because someone who is willing to blow us up wouldn't dare lie to us about their religion.

Freedom of religion. Discriminating based on religion alone is as odious as it is a sacrifice of out country's values.

Let me see....these silly "outcomes" vs not as many Americans murdered by jihadists....sounds good to me. Ban muslims.

    - - - Updated - - -

I did not know murdering innocent people was a religion.

I did not know that Trump only wanted to refuse entry to murderers. That's a new one.

And anyone who thinks that is an excuse for denying religious rights and the right to equitable treatment under the law to the Muslims who are not jihadists is seriously out of touch with our country's values.

People outside the US do not have to adhere to the US constitution, and thus, they are not protected by it either. Using "values" is a fairly weak argument, but citing amendments is not applicable.

On a side note, I believe the appropriate method would be to suspend immigration of people from certain countries as that is much tougher to circumvent.

People applying for immigration to the U.S. have legal protections, as well they should.

Our legal tradition treats these rights as natural and inalienable rights that are recognized by our government, not created by our government. There's also the fact that our country voted in favor of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Sure . . . if Trump had any actual plans to carry through with his bizarre promise. Targeting people by religion instead of country of origin is more showy, and he's less likely to have to actually do anything about it if he ever gets into office.

    The missing one:

    10. The party that created the KKK, thought National Socialism was cool, turned away the Jews, put Japs in internment camps, and Nuked Japan (twice) gets all bleeding heart and lets in too many and after a couple of major attacks goes back to their roots.

what about the fact that most terrorists aren't jihadists?

as the article mentions from 1980 to 2005, 94 percent of all terrorist attacks on American soil were committed by non-Muslims

    1. Relations with Muslim countries will suffer. Not necessarily. Countries form alliances out of mutual interest, not affection.

    2. The ban will hurt the economy. Not necessarily. Countries will still trade with each other if it is mutually advantageous.

    3. Discrimination against Muslims will grow. Actually it will decline if there are fewer Muslims to discriminate against.

    4. Muslim Americans won't be able to travel. A distinct plus. Muslim Americans are often radicalized by trips back to the old country.

    5. America will miss out on Muslim talent. Never heard of those people, myself.

    6. America will lose status as a world leader. Really? I don't see why.

    7. Terrorism will continue. True that, but there will be fewer Muslim terrorists in the US.

    8. ISIS will get stronger. That will be a problem for the Middle East and Europe if it continues its suicidal immigration policies. Not the US.

    9. America will no longer be America. To the contrary. Muslim immigrants dilute our country's Americanism. The sound of the Islamic call to prayer belongs in Riyadh, not Brooklyn.

What I find more horrifying is that our "extraordinarily thorough and comprehensive vetting process" doesn’t include checking Twitter to see if the prospective entrant was was recently chatting with her friends about how cool it would be to blow up a football stadium.

Even though prospective employers and colleges routinely perform social media checks on new applicants.

That would be for non American Muslims intending to come into our country. The constitution applies to American citizens. The rights are our rights, not the worlds rights. Likewise our laws. Each nation has it's own. Comprende?

Our country has a long history of recognizing these rights outside of our own citizenship. The Constitution is very clear which rights belong to citizens (such as the right to vote), and which belong to all people (such as the right to equal protection under our laws).

Our entire country's history stands in stark disagreement with your sentiment. Our involvement in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, hundreds of years of our courts regarding these rights as natural and inalienable, rather than being the gifts of the government. Personally, I agree with our founding fathers and our country's long-held principles of natural, inalienable rights. I don't know why this is suddenly difficult for people to understand. And when someone applies to move here, they do so under our laws, not the laws of another country.

Hmm....killing first amendment and going against the preamble of Declaration of Independence.....sounds like quite a fundamental transformation of America.

Trump supporters are such sorry excuse for Americans.

    I'm curious.

Do Muslims deny religious rights to anyone or fail to provide equitable treatment for all who are not (straight, male) Muslims?

Some do, some don't, obviously. But you already knew that, of course.
