Wait a minute, why did Sarah Braasch call the police? It makes no sense at all for one. for two, calling the police on someone who falls asleep because of studying, which is normal, all Sarah had to do was wake Siyonbola and ask if she was O.K. or inquired why she was sleeping. Calling the police is definitely beyond the pale as far as I am concerned. All of this huffiness about racism from the usual suspects does nothing but exacerbate, but this is what the usual suspects are after; anything to poke, prod, provoke and needle others and when they get the response they are seeking, they ALWAYS cry foul. As it used to be said, don't start none, there won't be none.

Is the common area a sleep-friendly zone? Is that were people go to nap?

When was the last time you woke someone you saw sleeping in a public space - you know, as you said "doing what is normal?"

You could do a great public service is you moved to San Francisco and spent your days waking up sleeping street people because that's the normal thing to do.

There exists in any large group busy bodies that report any infraction real or created.. That seems ot be the case here if you read the article.

The old Russkiye collusive propaganda again. This is worse that I thought. This IS a B.S. story meant to agitate because the usual crowd has nothing better to do other than poke, prod, provoke and needle.

The busy body thought she was breaking the rules by sleeping there, which would indicate it is not a sleep-friendly zone or a place people go to nap.

I did read the article RP12 which is how I know that it was minor and them turned major by Sarah because she is most likely an agitated person who likes to cause problems for others unnecessarily.

    As I said
"Well yes you do if are in violation of a dorm rule..." but do show me the one that says if your are black

And she didn't just fall asleep, she took a blanket and pillow and had turned off the lights.
It wasn't the first run in between these two when before the black student had invited a group into the common the area.

"After reviewing the scene in the 12th floor common room and seeing a computer, books and notebooks in addition to a blanket and pillow on the couch, the investigating officer determined that the person who had been sleeping in the common room was likely a student, so the officer asked the caller to wait in her room on the 12th floor.”"

"Siyonbola told the Yale Daily News that the May 8 incident wasn’t her first run-in with Braasch. In February she invited a group of graduate students to her dorm for a meeting in the common room. Jean-Louis Reneson, a black grad student, told the Daily News that he got lost in the building when he arrived and was “physically blocked” from entering the common room by Braasch after he asked her for directions. Reneson and Siyonbola filed a complaint about that incident with Yale’s Associate Dean for Graduate Student Development and Diversity Michelle Nearon. The Daily News obtained a copy of that complaint."

Maybe only when they take a blanket and pillow and turn off the lights in the common area as if it were their personal bedroom.

The problem was caused by the student who harassed her and called the cops without good reason. Perhaps she was seeking attention or control. The black student was minding her own business and voiced her quite understandable suspicion that the incident was race based. The division is caused by people who engage in racism and by people who are complicit in supporting racism by hiding it; rather than confronting it.

You mentioned that at 34 the black student is too old to be a student. The white student is in her 40's. Therefore age would not be a good reason for her to be suspicious and why haven't other students reported the white student due her her age. The notion that age was the reason for the call is nonsense. That's why. The incident continues to look racially motivated as your excuses dissolve.

I very much doubt she calls the cops every single time, for any reason.

Is there anything more lowly in this world than a meter maid? I'll have to ponder that.

Lots of things at schools seem "odd," but how many of them are exactly worthy of having the police called on you?

I am so glad that other posters chimed in on the ignorant dread comment. The black woman does not have dreadlocks. She has braids. You don't even know the difference. Most black people are proud of these styles and don't associate braids with homelessness. The people that I know do not describe her hairstyle as dirty hair. Braids are a popular hairstyle among black people worldwide because of our hair texture and cultural expression. Apparently, you would look at my braids and assume that I was homeless, if I were sleeping in a common area of a dorm. That attitude exemplifies racially tinged bias, if not outright racism!

You deny the existence of racially related cultural bias while engaging in the same. No wonder you seem to be on a blind crusade to deny its existence.

Justify her existence, because she was asked for ID? To see if she was a student, rather than loafer? lol

When one thinks of Yale or any of these ivy league universities what comes to mind are how many those left of center attend these schools. So, is it the lefties from rich elite families, who would see a person of color and figure they might no belong here, on campus, sleeping?

One thing I have noticed over the years is this. Rich elites don't associate with anyone who is beneath their status and class, while average americans, non elites, do. They of course will play the race card, against non elites, who do associate with colored people, but who must be closet racists at best, but do not make it a habit of spending time with those people beneath their entitled class. I am afraid that the greatest racists are not trump voters but people in our upper, elite class. And their racism is much more subversive, and apparently an upper class thing. They hide it very, very well of course. But their little black hearts will reveal themselves under the right circumstances.

Now that Sarah Braasch name in relationship to this event is a matter of public record and can be found by a google search I fear that the value of her Yale degrees had been greatly reduce unless the KKK is in need of a Yale graduate.

My family is from Jamaica, the ones with dreads are the most obsessive about their hair. Only an ignorant person would think dreads are dirty.

I also have a cousin who just graduated from Yale last year and shes in town and I'm seeing her and her sister tonight so I can't wait to ask her about this.

It isn't exactly someplace I'd go to sleep, but I wouldn't even remotely raise an eyebrow if I saw such a thing.
