Go ahead mate. North Korea isn't one of those things for me. For me there are a few things worth fighting for. So I don't constantly fight. Just a few times in a life time. Who wants a life of fighting? Not me.
Unlikely, I don't think any differently about Russia or China. I don't attack everyone that threatens me. Far from it.
The Cold War somewhat predates the internet. As do I. They threaten to nuke you too. Difference is, you believe they can so you don't want to fight them. And that's when you get peace. You see if everything you love including yourself is assured to die in a fight with North Korea, you won't think it's worth fighting for either. Because it isn't.
He has made many threatening statements. Here is one. "The United States must choose. It is up to you whether the nation of the United States exists on this planet or not."
March 2016 and it was in a propaganda 4 minute video that describes various "defeats" of the US by North Korea going back to the 1950's. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/27/world/asia/north-korea-propaganda-video-nuclear-strike.html And here is the propaganda video the quote came from:
In Vietnam we proved that we were willing to spend significant blood and treasure to fight the spread of Communism. To have retreated sooner would have been to show weakness in the face of the Soviet threat. Would the Chinese have allied with us had we shown more risk aversion? Who knows. I'm not convinced it was the right call, but I see why it was made. In Iraq we tried, bluntly, to increase our influence in the region. This was clearly the wrong call, and an unmitigated disaster. Might be more beneficial in the long-term though, I suspect that looking at the Iranians as a threat is a habit we're going to drop very soon...
That is just the domino theory nonsense. We lost in Vietnam and is it now Communist? Did the who region fall to the Communists? Try again for a real reason.
Dead is dead. It is the same. My killer had more kills to his name than your killer? The dead don't care
No it's not. Depends on what you mean by "Communist." Are you not sure of the answer? You're acting like I'm promoting domino theory. I'm not.
No, it's not. My theory is that the Americans bought some credibility in terms of willingness to fight. There was, and still is, widespread belief that the Americans talk tough but when the chips are down will sacrifice nothing.
If you aren't supporting domino theory where did you get the nonsense we fought to prevent the spread of Communism.
First of all, the fact that I don't "support domino theory" doesn't mean that American policy-makers at the time didn't. Second, one mustn't believe in domino theory to believe that fighting in Vietnam could help in our fight against Communism. Hitler didn't believe that Britain would fight him, and it drove his actions. It's important that people factor potential American intervention in their calculations.
So we sacrificed how many American lives, killed how many civilians, wasted how much money just to prove we were willing to fight for absolutly no good reason. That did America's credability a lot of good, I am sure.
A lot, yes. It is a nasty game. People have and will continue to die for things like "credibility" and "influence." Maybe not on in a number of circles, but one can imagine that the Soviets think very differently in a world where the US allows Vietnam to go Communist without a shot fired.
