Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Slams Fox News For Laughing At Her DC Rent Problem

Um she won because the incumbent leftist thought that he had the election in the bag and so he didn't even bother taking it seriously. She won by a fluke and she replaced an extremely experienced and well-like leftist politician who was expected to win the speakership from has-been Pelosi. Oh . . . dear!

I do not like her and would not vote for her if she was in my district. But it is no surprise that an apartment in Washington DC is out of reach until she starts getting her Congressional paycheck. Average rents are over $2000 a month there. Figure having to pay security, cleaning deposit and moving costs and all of a sudden you need quite the pile of cash merely to get there.

There are quite a few members of Congress who never get a place to live in DC. They sleep in their offices on a fold-out bed, or a futon, or a blow-up mattress that gets stuffed into a closet during the day. There's a gym for the members, locker rooms and showers. A cafeteria too. So it works out.

I'm not sympathetic to their plight, I certainly wouldn't pay them more. Just seeing it like it is. She's way too lecft wing for my taste but she's right about the cost of setting up in DC.

It's just simple numbers.

The implication behind these jokes, while some are a little chucklable, are pretty saddening. Apparently the FOX News talking heads, along with a good deal of conservatives here, think politics is a game for the wealthy alone.

 

It is funny when that person is barely out of diapers and as stupid (politically) as most kids are at that age. If she was 50+, and had come from working class roots ... learning and maturing along the way, it would not be funny, but would probably still be championed.

But neither conservatives (declared conservatives) nor liberals (closet conservatives) generally seem to like being reminded that the differences between the two groups and parties is so minor as to be practically non-existent.

Well she has to maintain two addresses one in her home state and in D.C. and after taxes her income is around $5k or so a month which is good but come on its New York City and in D.C. and now we need to just eliminate this requirement and it should solve some of the issues.

 

You know something, I'd do this differently. Build a dormitory for Senators and Representatives. Forbid them living in rentals or private homes or their official offices. You wish to serve, you live in government provided rooms in a big building, two to a dorm room. Most important parts, all sleeping and dining facilities are bi-partisan. You share a dorm room with someone not in your party. You dine seated next to someone not in your party. If you go out to eat you must do it with someone not of your party.

Either it solves the "WE HATE THE OTHER SIDE" problem or they all murder each other.

Could be a win-win, depending on the breaks.
