Who do you think you are to tell African nations how to run their countries?

Is it just me or does anyone else notice that the people most upset about the death of a giraffe are the people least upset over the death of millions and millions of unborn children?

It's what they are. If they're lucky it will be lion or a snake. If unlucky hyenas, starvation or from infection due to injury. No protein is ever wasted in the bush. Ever. Where do you think the law of jungle came from. It's a harsh land with no mercy. Everything stings, bites or hurts in some way.

It accurately reflects the reality of the situation.
So does the fact this person actively hunted the animal after it killed 3 other giraffes
And, of course, you still ignore the fact 4000ld of meat was harvested, with some of it given to the locals.

Indeed - rather than look at the facts, you choose to tell us how you feel, and loudly take issue with the fact we don't feel the same.

Please let us know when you can provide a rational repose to the discussion that takes into account the facts of the situation.

Just stop...let's agree to disagree. Run out and kill something quick, maybe getting some blood on your hands will calm you down and make your feel better.

10 acres in the Texas hill country, it is nice, but nothing compared to my Alaska property.

No, the truth is just not something you want to face or talk about. The Africans would wipe out every animal on the continent in a decade. They're so fatalistic they'll worry about it later. It's the way they are. In Kenya despite a fully booked hunting season, hunting was suddenly closed and game fee's confiscated. The operators and their native employees went under. The Kenyans promptly proceeded to machine every elephant they could find outside of the game reserves and then went with an ivory ban leaving them with a massive amount of legal ivory which they then sold for inflated prices. None of the money went into the people's pockets. That's the way things work there.

Oh gee, why didn't you say so...you made me see the light....I'm going to run over there ASAP and kill as many animals as I can so the locals don't have all the fun. That way I can take out my frustrations on them that I feel for hateful cold human beings. But before that, because I can't wait to kill something, I think I'll grab my gun and kill all "Prey" animals here in the woods near my home too!

The question was: Do you consume animal products?

C'mon KJ, you sound like a snowflake. The animals don't retire, they die usually not very pleasantly. There's no vet to put them out of their misery or paw holding till they pass. A hunter's bullet is a lot more humane and other persons get to eat, not just the vultures, hyenas and jackals.

Neither would I. But the animal in this case was a rogue bull that was past breeding age and killing other giraffes to keep them from breeding. Responsible management practices called for it to be culled to prevent further damage to the local population, and in selling the hunting license they raised money for anti-poaching efforts. Then, the local villages were supplied with fresh, healthy meat, legally harvested. Zero downside... but that doesn't stop people from raging incoherently about it.

The truth is sometimes cold. Hypocrites like you who pretend you are above killing animals, when you aren't vegan, just irritate me. Yes, it's cold, but that cow that provided the burger you ate last week was a prey animal. That chicken was either a slave that you asked others to steal eggs from, or it was also a prey animal. The pig that made the bacon was a prey animal.

Gotta get the right permits. Those prey animals belong to us all, and to kill them you need to get permission.

So you like to pay other people to enslave animals and steal the chicken's eggs, and steal the cow's milk to make cheese with, all for your eating pleasure. You're no better than the girl killing the giraffe for enjoyment. I don't deny that I kill and enslave animals for my enjoyment.

I think we can agree that the connection between a herd of Whitetail Deer in North America and a finite number of non-meat producing animals in Africa, is tenuous at best.

So you would kill a giraffe in South Africa? They aren't endangered, and they are no more protected than any other game animal.

Per the IUCN (international registry for endangered species), the giraffe is Vulnerable (not endangered), and the South African population is on the increase. Interestingly, in Kenya, which doesn't allow trophy hunting, the giraffe populations are on the decrease.

The statement is not "cold". It's simple reality.

Proper conservation of animals includes regulating populations and culling problem animals that endanger the population as a whole. Predators are part of that delicate balance, and humans are apex predators who have been involved in the management of wildlife since before recorded history began.

When an animal dies in the wild, it's usually a pretty horrific death; torn to pieces by a pride of lions, or hyenas. When a human hunter harvests an animal, it is generally a quick, clean, and humane end. The animal doesn't suffer, and in the case of hunting in Africa, the meat generally goes on to feed villages throughout the area.

I can't help but roll my eyes at the ravings of anti-hunters; who rage at hunters with extreme hyperbole and rhetoric, and accusations of being "evil" or "depraved"... and even demanding they be killed for daring to be involved in hunting. Well, I think of responsible hunting as a noble endeavor; one which stamps character on the hunter and teaches them important life skills such as land navigation and fieldcraft.
