It dropped 1.5 percent from 2000 to the end of 2008. It has dropped 3.4 percent from that point(Jan 09- present) on. It was also fairly steady over those 8 years. Since 09, it's been a constant drop with only one or two blips up .1%. It's not been good since he took over.

With an aging population and a decreasing birth rate, it is quite possible. The problem with the article is that it does go into the details of where those numbers are being derived from.

We get the blame for everything, no matter what it is, no matter how obvious it is that it's not our fault, no matter how recent it is, or how long it's been going on, etc etc etc... It's gotten to the point where everything the left says is a joke. I mean, you can see a thread and immediately predict that a solid failure by the democrats will be blamed on the right. I would suggest you look at your web link again. the figures that are being provided do not explain where their analysis is coming from. In fact, the decrease in the labor participation rate is virtually explained by an aging population, read baby boomers, who are now retireing while the birth rate and the influx of young workers is steadily declining. Yet, the economy added some 188k jobs in the last month while the number of unemployment claims is dropping steadily.

 

The oilfield has been laying employees off by the thousands because of the price of oil dropping.

 

The article didn't blame or even suggest Obama. It just stated facts.

We have an aging population due to the baby boomers who are now retiring in greater and greater numbers. We also have a declining birth rate as well. If you take away immigrants, both legal and illegal, the numbers for those who are working will be much, much worse. BTW, you are one of the posters who wants to curb immigration, especially legal immigration.

that is on the oil exploration side due to the economics of oil futures, future expectations, etc. However, the petroleum refineries are still at capacity with overtime in some places like New Orleans, Houston, etc.

But in the aggregate, the oil and gas industry is not what is driving employement numbers, Service industry, financial industry, and medical is what is driving the employment numbers.
