Let me preface this by saying, there are sure to be Nay Sayers against the intention of this story. It doesn't really matter though because this is the exact reason why I say that anyone who comes to a school with intentions to shoot up the gun free zone should die in a hail of gunfire by school staff.

LEOs today are taught that in active shooter situations the first LEO there goes straight for the sounds of gun fire....why? Well as is the case here, once active shooters feel pressure in the form of someone who is armed they either take their own lives or quit.

Thank God there was a good guy with a gun there to stop a bad guy with a gun

You know what would have prevented the gun shooting? Making sure the shooter never had a gun to begin with.

    'a hail of gunfire'?

The story is about an armed guard- who didn't go in guns blazing but did exactly what he was supposed to do- which was protect the children.

Good for him- a testament to good training, good planning- and by the way, not reported was the response time by the sheriff's department.

Colorado has learned from the Aurora shootings- lets not reduce it to "everyone should carry guns"- this had a happier ending because of the armed guard, good training, good planning and fast response times.

just imagine a staff member meeting said bad guy with a gun, maybe said bad guy dies in a hail of gun fire at the front door and Claire is unharmed. CCH people have good training, are armed, have good planning and can have even faster response times....also let's imagine...there is no armed guard..as is the most common case. Good guys with guns of all types are important.

Well. yeah. Now tell me how that would be possible?

Or we could 'imagine' what actually happened.

This was a good guy who was armed and trained- and acted appropriately- which didn't include a 'hail of gunfire'

Some are calling the debate teacher a "hero" for running out the back door when the psychopath came looking.

Too bad there wasn't a teacher with a CC Permit and their own handgun allowed on campus to end the situation sooner.

I think all schools should allow any teacher the right to carry their own weapon after they have also paid their own money to take at least a one day tactical shooting course. No need for taxpayers to pay for anything.

The 'What If' scenarios are never ending. Would armed teacher(s) be able to either stop a shooter before the act occurred or been able to make a difference in the ultimate outcome, who knows? The only thing that we can take to the bank is that unarmed teacher(s) cannot do much of anything.

You know what would've prevented Jack the Ripper?

Make sure he never had a knife to begin with

    Yeah. Makes sense doesn't it?

A society recongizing that a student doesn't need a gun might be a good first step.

He sure does if he lives in Chicago, where liberal gun control laws prevent nearly everyone but the criminals from owning guns, and where the gun homicide rates are exponentially higher than in cities like Plano, TX (which has some of the laxest gun control laws in the US)

    Sure. Why not?

ratt is also ignoring all the individuals who were denied weapons up front because they could not pass a background check.

In 2010, 153,000 applications to purchase a firearm or obtain a permit were blocked. The most common reason an application is denied is because the customer has a previous felony conviction or indictment, making up almost half of all denials for federal checks and one-third of state checks.

    An armed good guy.

Why? My student has a gun and enjoys shooting it, is safe with it, and is not a violent person. I should mention he enjoys playing football, wrestling and martial arts. The gun of and by itself will never kill eh?

So that's not a student. That's a responsible gun owner.

That doesn't require government to punish them for the acts of real criminals eh?

Who said anything about punishing? Simply waiting a few days isn't punishing someone. It's a test of patience.

Concealed carry in schools is permitted in Utah.

Haven't heard of many school shooting there.

I never knew doltish was a word. And yeah, they are on the decline. Is it because gun ownership is up? Probably not.

Yes. You because a win on PF is going to change the entire debate. You know, just because I didn't mention it, doesn't mean anything.
