As in Africa and many other places the money that goes to these countries through foreign aid is immediately gobbled up by the families in charge. Only when these countries become independent and self sufficient will things change.

These countries have great climates, great soil. access to two oceans, hard working people (given the chance and education) ideally situated between two continents and yet are consistently broke. And you think giving them welfare checks each month is going to help these people???

Unless there is a national disaster there is no good reason.

Some good points but if America was to invade, as happened in Panama, I think it would have the support of the people. The exceptions would be Costa Rica and Panama, and perhaps Belize. They could even ask the people for their approval before they invade and it would likely pass..

I agree that our Congress needs to deal with this issue in a thoughtful, fair, constructive way. It's been an issue since the Reagan years. I'm mystified & perplexed by the decades long delay. I know it's a complex issue, but the lack of Congressional action has forced decisions onto the President, whoever that might be at the time, and he's the wrong person to be making that decision. The two parties need to get beyond mere combat & re-learn how to work together & accomplish something for the country they were elected to represent. This extremist partisanship simply makes everything worse.
