I know it's easy to get illegal firearms. You can order them or the darknet much more cheaply than you can licensed. A full auto machine pistol sets you back a few grand, what a criminal's dream! In fact, that sounds like any shooter's dream, criminal or not.

But I mean, if you have a revolver they aren't going to have the casings, and if you use hollow point bullets the bullets will be deformed. How else are they going to match the crime to your gun? It's not like you're going to leave a note with the serial number at the crime scene.

Do police report many non-stolen licensed weapons being used in crime? I am ignorant of the statistics, someone enlighten me.

State laws vary greatly. In many states, guns are not "registered" and can be sold freely between private parties without paperwork. Police do not necessarily have ballistic data for every gun either. Guns can usually be identified by serial number if they are recovered after a crime, but only traced to the last known owner. We are trying to avoid total registration.

now to explain to a subject the difference between a Right and privilege.....driving, or operating a motor vehicle, requires licensing because it is considered a privilege.
Guns are a Right. It is not controlled by government because it is a Right.
Government is prohibited, by law, from affecting the Bill of Rights, which happens to include the 2nd A

Let me see - there was the Email scam about Australian gun laws increasing crime
There has been articles published in America about how an "Australian police officer" was "concerned" about how dangerous it had become
    http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/ausguns.asp
And then there is THIS thread

yeah Canada is the most important country in the world. If it were to disappear I guess we'd suffer from a lower quality NHL and the disappearance of some overpriced beer.

I do not have to register my motor vehicle. There are many motor vehicles I can drive on city streets without any form of registration. Depending on where you live.

Only for operation of a public street or highway. Usage on private property requires absolutely no registration, or even compliance with public safety rules.

Motor vehicle is also a broad term. A riding lawnmower is a motor vehicle, but there is no need for registration of it in order for it to be used as a method of transportation.

Whooptie freaking do lady. I offered that flippantly, not in an attempt to get in a measuring contest over whose argument from authority is larger. The very concept you illustrate is repugnant to the concept of a free society, Australian or American or (*)(*)(*)(*)ing Chinese. I know your government has adopted this policy, I know why, and I realize that charges don't always translate to jail, that they can be dropped. Doesn't make them less repugnant to liberty.

    - - - Updated - - -

And the facts released show that such policies fail to accomplish their aim. Which was my point.

Shoving is battery in America and can be assault if you get apprehensive about them doing it. So is spitting. If I snatch a plate out of your hand without touching you I have battered you. Not that different

Or you could make one in your garage for less than 50 dollars. Which people do. Many make rather sophisticated weapons. For instance you can easily make an ak47 with a hammer a drill press and a shovel blade. No (*)(*)(*)(*). Google Australian homemade firearms

so, your best is using pictures taken in different countries and using them to demonstrate what America looks like. No wonder you are so confused about us. You're reading the Mexican rags.....
Cars like this never leave the farm, dearie, in America

    - - - Updated - - -

then you take all the rocket scientists from Mexico, and that would be most of the illegals, and move them into YOUR home......Aussies have absolutely no class if we were to use some as a measuring stick
