Please explain how someone who didn't come here willingly came here to live permanently.

Oh horse pucky. They meet the definition of immigrant. Secretary Carson never said they came here voluntarily. Most intelligent folks would have understood him to mean that by saying they came in the bottom of slave ships.

Complain to JFK who included the slaves as immigrants.

It's not funny watching racists seeing racism where none exists!

    From the Washington Post--

Slavery as immigration is a not uncommon characterization in academic discussions. To be sure "immigrant" has the connotation of voluntary immigration but there are also similarities between slaves and immigrants that scholars point out, often by using the term "immigrant" to refer to those who have come from a foreign country, freely or not.

Also, for your education, an article from the Depaul Law Review--

"Tricky Magic: Blacks as Immigrants and the Paradox of Foreignness"-The black American experience is an immigrant experience.
    http://via.library.depaul.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1629&context=law-review

Maybe Secretary Carson is TOO educated for your tastes.

Yeah I am wondering how a surgeon is appointed as head of HUD instead of HHS.

I'm worried about his skills as well. At the same address he told the team that he could drill a hole in their temple, insert some stimulating electrodes and they'd be able to recite verbatim a book they read 60 years ago.
If he can do that he'd be the only one in the world able to do so and his talents are clearly being wasted.

I feel the urge to puke when I read crap such people trying to hide behind the dictionary definition of immigrant in order to justify Carson's anus talk I will have to go and tell my 94 year mother, a survivor of German forced labor camps during WWII that she was a "guest worker" invited by the Nazis. Then I will go over and explain to my Jewish neighbor that his family who died in German Nazi killing camps were just "Holocaust Tourists".

We are talking about a man who publically stated he thinks the Egyptian Pyramids we built be Biblical Joseph to store grain...is anyone surprised?

Slasher Carson pretending that captured slaves were "immigrants" is akin to Joseph Goebbels characterizing Jews in concentration camp as "our guests."

It may not be "pc" to call things by their proper name sometimes but, as Confucius noted, “The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name.”

Damn facts. So often they get in the way of a good narrative. *******s and their "definitions"... that whole words have meaning thing is so frustrating. It is a shame your words... actually don't.

Ben Carson truly is a clown. There's just something not right about this guy, it makes you wonder if he needs an MRI.

In that case all the children, FORCED into this country by their parents, brought along without any control over their own lives..they must NOT be immigrants. They're all DREAMERS looking for better lives and for their offspring and future generations, they certainly received FAAAAAAAAAAAR better lives than their African cousins who stayed. If you want to get technical. =)

Nice turd polishing there, son, but I doubt that slaves considered themselves immigrants or that the slavers considered them even human, so Carson's quaint nonsense about slave "immigration" is as incredibly stupid as his notion that the Egyptians used the pyramids to store grain.

I feel the urge to puke when I read nonsense about the use of the word immigrant. Bringing up Jews in Nazi Germany in an attempt to make a proper analogy to Secretary Carson's use of the word immigrant is not only pathetic but it borders on insanity. The Washington Post had a long piece explaining it was perfectly proper to call the slaves immigrants. I can't wait to hear how the Washington Post is crap.

You simply can't refute the truth. So you call it turd polishing lol. The truth doesn't need polishing. It speaks for itself.

The left biggest enemy is their own emotions. They can't see reason as of right now. To much emoting.

People in forced labor camisole were captured and sent to Germany to be forced to work. My mom was taken at gunpoint from her home thrown into a cattle car train and sent to Germany. That is very much like African slaves were sent to the Americas to work. The anology to the German Nazis is proper because the Germans had told them that were being sent there to work. Other times there were told they were being resettled in holiday camps and at times thecGermans had bands and orchestras playing fir thecarriving Jewish guest.

An editorial can be crap or good no matter if it is in NYT, WASH POST, Air the WSJ.
Crap editorials are written by writers e.g. people not a corporation so matter what Cjtizens United had to say.

You could call it immigration, technically, if you don't mind using an obnoxious euphamism.

Crap editorials? The article writer referenced four published papers (two authored by blacks) justifying the use of "immigrant" as used by Secretary Carson. It's time to face the fact that you don't have an intellectual leg to stand on. Your dislike of Secretary Carson, a black man, because he works for the Trump administration, is noted. I'm sure your mother would be ashamed of you.

So... people bought and sold and brought here to slave in toil in cotton fields are considered immigrants.

People pushed out by radicalized religion, forced to abandon all they have, or be beheaded, or burned to death, drowned, electrocuted, run over by tanks, shot with heavy machine guns, blown up with mortar shells tied around their necks, they are immigrants also, just not the right kind of immigrants - the kind that feeds the robber baron overlords pushing debt slavery in this country? Is that it?

I am pro-immigration reform. I am not pro-quibbling nonsense like this. Carson is a ****ing idiot, and the right should stop defending him. **** that guy. Scumbag.

Carson made a boorish statement. In fact, he's made quite a few peculiar statements that have been widely publicized. Pointing that out isn't racist or partisan. It's also not racist to disagree with an author of an article, regardless of the writer's race.
