exactly, anything republicans do to hurt the ACA that hurts Americans is all on them

I think a bi-partisan solution is really what both parties want, otherwise it;s just becomes a blame game of the last party to touch it and nothing ever gets fixed

We can fix it by allowing insurance companies to charge the premiums they need, increasing subsidies helping people pay for healthcare, providing a public options, simplifying healthcare laws, and increasing competition in healthcare itself.

Premiums have already sky rocketed and with a mandate to purchase insurance people are already paying throw the nose and premiums are still going up as Obamacare fails.

I never would give the Dumbos a pass, of course. What they gave us with 0-care is not good, although I don't know the reasons for that. I suspect because even with their majority back in the day, they could not have gotten away with single payer, but they wanted to get that health care ball rolling somehow.

Heath care costs have been one of the top three worries for Americans since Nixon was in office. Trying to throw together a bill just so Republicans and Trump can say they repealed Obamacare is moronic.

They should take their time - two years, four years - don't care, and build something that is going to work for Americans ... not just Donald Trump.

Gods - it's like building your healthcare at McDonald's - sure it's fast, but damn, the after-taste sucks.

We have to repeal and replace it. Otherwise let it collapse under its own weight.

While I am no fan of John McCain, I think in this case he's doing the Republicans a favor. Anything from Lindsay Graham is going to be a disaster, and anything that's a disaster from any Republican, left-wing as Graham is, is going to be laid at the door of ALL Republicans. Better for McCain to kill this god-awful plan and let the Republicans be blamed for total ineptitude in fixing Obamacare than to pass it and then have things get worse and be blamed for that. At least if the Republicans continue to fail to do anything, they can still blame the Democrats for Obamacare's failures. And the right wing can push for actual conservatives to get elected in the 2018 primaries.

Canadians, Europeans, and others pay far lower prices because every single one of them has price controls. Only in the US is the market for pharmaceuticals a free market. Maybe South Korea, I don't know.

Agreed. And I'm a conservative, though no longer a member of the Republican party.

Agreed. Democrats want single payer and we can't afford it, and they won't go along with anything else.

I'll give you two ****ing cents for John McCain's "integrity".

Yes! Finally someone who gets it! Not a single GOP bill had any free-market reforms in them! Why? Bastards!

While I'm opposed to the bill, the authors of the bill have gone on numerous talk shows to debunk the claim that it changes anything in the way of pre-existing conditions requirements. So that's a strawman.

They do have something better, but they are too spineless to actually bring it up for debate, much less pass it. It's this novel idea called the "free market".

    Right!

I agree with all but one of those suggestions, and that is increasing subsidies to help people pay for healthcare. The more government pays for something, the higher the cost goes. It becomes a vicious cycle, where the government has to pay more and more every year and the price goes up year after year. The same thing occurs in college tuition, where inflation is 8-9% a year instead of the 2-3% it is in the free market. Why? Because of government-insured loans paying for tuition. Providing subsidies for people to pay for healthcare will ensure a constant inflation in healthcare prices, just as it does now through Medicare and Medicaid. If we could get government out of the healthcare market, prices would come down to what people can actually afford. (I know, it's a surprise to me to be agreeing with you on anything, too.)

He serves at the interest of the people who voted him into office, the people of Arizona. Sell outs are the one's who warmonger, wasting money on weapons instead of their citizens, and who insists on tax cuts for the rich.

For some reason, the Trump cult does not appear to be demanding that their messiah's commitment to them be respected.

Name a country on earth with a free market healthcare system.

The US had one up until 1965, and it was a success. Most of the most important breakthroughs in medicine occurred prior to 1965, so we can hardly say that socialized medicine has been all that significant in improving health.

First use of anesthesia: 12th century
    Discovery of bacteria: 1676
    First vaccine: 1797 (for smallpox)
Invention of the hypodermic needle: 1853
First link between contaminated water and disease: 1854
First use of local anesthetic: 1866
First use of intravenous anesthetic: 1875
First addition of chlorine to the water supply: 1893
    Discovery of viruses: 1898
    Discovery of penicillin: 1929
    First polio vaccine: 1952
    First organ transplant: 1954

And I don't really count governmental organizations as medical breakthroughs, but the CDC and the WHO were founded prior to 1965.

Life expectancy improvement in the 50 years prior to 1965 (using males):

    1915: 52.5 years
    1965: 66.8 years
    improvement: 14.3 years or 27%

Life expectancy improvement in the 50 years since 1965:

    1965: 66.8 years
    2015: 76.4 years
    improvement: 9.6 years or 14%

So, yes, most of the major medical advances occurred prior to 1965. Almost everything that has happened since 1965 has built on those advances and not created something new. Heart transplant is a variation on kidney transplant. Amoxycillin is a penicillin variant. Etc., etc.

If you think there have not been a thousand great medical advances since the 1960's then you are willfully ignorant

Republicans have been damaging themselves by trying to destroy the ACA.

October 2013, when the federal government shut down over an attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act it damaged the party

The polling shows Americans have lost all confidence in the Republican Party to better Americans

    http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/24/politics/cnn-poll-republican-party-approval/index.html
...Fewer than three in 10 Americans -- 29% -- hold a favorable view of the Republican Party according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. That is down 13 percentage points from March and is the lowest mark for the GOP since CNN began asking the question in 1992....
